Kurbaan is a 2009 Indian Bollywood thriller, romance, political film released on Nov 20, 2009. The film is directed by Rensil D'Silva, produced by Karan Johar.

Kurbaan : Cast: Saif, Kareena, Vivek & others; Dir: Rensil D'Silva; Story: Kareena who lives in the US, comes down to Delhi where she meets Ehsaan (Saif). They get married & move to the US. Soon she realizes that Ehsaan is a terrorist, planning to hijack a plane. It is now upto Kareena & Vivek (a journalist) to thwart Ehsaan’s plans.

Avantika Ahuja (Kareena Kapoor) who lives in the US returns to Delhi after her father has a cardiac arrest. While in Delhi she meets Ehsaan Khan (Saif Ali Khan), a Delhi University Professor. Being in the same profession at the same place love blossoms between the two. Meanwhile Avantika gets a return call from New York asking her to rejoin her job. She breaks this news to Ehsaan and expresses her desire to work in the US, Ehsaan agrees and joins her but before that Avantika's father has some reservations about her daughter marrying a Muslim.However he gives in as the couple has decided to get married. Eventually they get married and move to the USA. Avantika helps Ehsaan in getting a job at the same university where she teaches and Ehsaan is appointed as a professor to teach Islam and the Modern World. Avantika's life changes when her neighbor Salma (Nauheed Cyrusi) informs her about her house arrest and requests Avantika to help her by contacting her friend Rihana (Dia Mirza), a TV reporter. Avantika meets Rihana and tells her about Salma's problem and meanwhile she meets Riyaz (Vivek Oberoi), Rihana's boyfriend and colleague who takes Salma's problem as a case of domestic violence. Unfortunately Rihana has to fly out of the city before meeting Salma and she gets her flight information when Avantika is still at her office. Avantika becomes pregnant and waits at her house to share this with Ehsaan but when she hears voices coming from their neighbor's house, she investigates and finds out that her neighbors Bhaijaan (Om Puri) and the others are planning to blast the flight in which Rihana is traveling, and have also killed Salma as she wanted to expose them. Her neighbors see her and chase her to her house where she meets Ehsaan who consoles her but soon reveals that he is also a part of the terrorist group. Bhaijaan ask Ehsaan to kill her in order to make their operation successful however Ehsaan denies after learning that Avantika is pregnant. Ehsaan keeps Avantika in house arrest and threatens to kill her father in India if she tries to inform anyone. Avantika realizes that she is a pawn in Ehsaan’s game. It turns out he married her to legitimately obtain Social Security Cards and a new identity in the USA. Avantika calls Rihana and leaves a voice message on her office number to stop her from boarding the flight but it was too late. The plane explodes killing Rihana and all others on the flight.

Riyaz, heartbroken and revengeful finds Avantika's voice message for Rihana and begins a mission to uncover the real culprits behind the flight bombings. Riyaz also joins Ehsaan's lectures and soon befriends him. Ehsaan finds him to be a perfect replacement for one of his group member Aqeel (Salma's husband) who was killed by Ehsaan while they were taking out Salma's body to bury it. Ehsaan introduces Riyaz to Bhaijaan who becomes suspicious of Riyaz's thoughts to fight against the Americans. Ehsaan makes Riyaz a part of their next mission to bomb several subway stations in New York.

Riyaz tries to spoil the plan with the help of Avantika. Time starts running out for Riyaz & Avantika and they become helpless when Bhaijaan pre-pones the mission to 3 days earlier. While carrying bombs in the subway Riyaz's colleague bumps into him and tells Ehsaan & Bhaijaan about his real identity. Riyaz tries to escape and in the chaos, shoots Bhaijaan. While taking his last breath, Bhaijaan informs Ehsaan that there are 3 more bombs placed in the bags of 2 wives of the terrorists involved and one of it placed in Avantika's bag which is being escorted by Aapa (Kirron Kher). He has a change of heart to save his love and child and doesn't kill Riyaz when he corners him and instead they both make a plan to stop all the other terrorists. Riyaz tries to save the people at the train stations but 2 bombs explode killing Hamid and another terrorist. Ehsaan kills Aapa while saving Avantika. Ultimately he sacrifices himself at the end to save the innocent Avantika

Kurbaan is set against the backdrop of global terrorism and the distortion of religion.

A few months later, Avantika receives a call from her university in New York, asking her to come back for the Fall Semester. Avantika breaks the news to Ehsaan. He in turn, tells her he doesn't mind coming to the States with her, to find a job. But first they need to get married.

Soon after the marriage, they leave to start a new life in New York. They buy a house in an Indian neighbourhood and move in. Just as they are setting up home, their conservative Muslim neighbours, Hamid and Anjum, invite them over for dinner.

The next morning, Salma, one of the women Avantika met the night before at the dinner, visits her under the pretext of gifting her sweets. When Avantika invites her in, Salma tells her that she is in grave danger. Nothing is what it seems. Salma pleads with Avantika to help her. What follows next, is a series of incidents that sucks Avantika into a vortex of danger and intrigue. As her life spirals out of control, Avantika realizes that she is a pawn in a huge game. And no one is to be trusted.

Directed by Rensil D’Silva Kurban is the story of Avantika( Kareena) who is a teacher at a university in Delhi. She has come back from New York where she teaches, because her father has suffered a heart attack. Here she meets Ehsaan (Saif) who is a temporary professor and they fall in love. A few months later she gets a call from her university in New York and they ask her to come back.

When she breaks this news to Ehsaan, he agrees to go along with her and also to get married to her. After the marriage they leave for New York and set up a home in the Indian neighborhood, where their conservative Muslim neighbours invite them over for dinner.
The next morning, Salma [Nauheed Cyrusi], one of the daughter-in-law Avantika met the night before at the dinner, visits her under the pretext of gifting her sweets. Salma pleads her for help as she is in grave danger and in the process pulling along Avantika to in the mess and in danger.
Avantika makes a move to find out what is happening and in the process finds out that the conservative family is actually a gang of terrorists and that her husband is a Muslim extremist and only married her to get an entrance ticket in New York and is planning a big attack on the city.

Ehsaan keeps her under house arrest. Soon Kareena finds out that Ehsaan plans to hijack an aeroplane. One of the passengers on that plane is Vivek Oberoi, a journalist.

It is now upto Kareena and Vivek to thwart Ehsaan’s plans.
