Story, Synopsis, Trivia, Dialogues for Lovesongs (2008)
Mridula Chatterjee (Jaya Bachchan) is an widow staying in Calcutta, running her NGO. Rohan (Prithviraj Chaudhury), her grandson comes home for vacation and tries to peep into her past. Out comes a secret, which she had closely guarded so long. The story goes back to her college life, Naxalite days, how communalism changed her life. Her romance with Aftab Jaffrey (Om Puri) also gets lost in communal maze. She had to rush into an arranged marriage, however her husband passed away, when she was pregnant. Her daughter, Palaash (Shahana Chatterjee) was a singer at a nightclub. She had a difficult relationship with her husband, Dev, a drummer. Mridula also has a chance encounter with Aftab, who is also married by then to Rabea (Mallika Sarabhai). Her story is narrated to Rohan and her boyfriend, Tara, who slowly understand her choices and how lives change due to circumstances and choices we make.
