Matir Ghor is a 1944 Indian Bengali drama,family film released on Apr 29, 1944. The film is directed by Haricharan Bhanja, produced by Bharat Lakshmi Pictures under banner named Sree Bharat Lakshmi Pictures.

Kamakhya is an Ayurvedic practitioner and Mathur was a magistrate. They were good friends. They had a wish that Kamakhya's son Sudhir will marry Mathur's daughter Aarati. Both Sudhir and Aarati belived that from their childhood. After graduation of Sudhir, Kamakhya decided to send him to London to study I.C.S, but Mathur protested against that. Kamakhya was so desperate about his decision that he sold his house and sent Sudhir to London. And that create a misunderstanding between the two friends. Before leaving, Sudhir was unable to meet Aarati. Sovona, only daughter of Sir Digamber, came to London to study nursing after her father's death. Her sister and her husband Mr. Choudhury also have came there as her guardian. Sovona met with Sudhir and their relationship grew. Sovona's sister could guess Sovona's love for Sudhir. But how it was possible? Aarati was waiting for him. Sudhir failed in his examination. He informed his friend Bhaben about his failure in the examination. He also bound to marry Sir Digamber's only daughter Sovona. Bhahen did not convey the total message to Kamakhya, he only said that Sudhir was coming back. But truth cannot be suppressed. Sudhir came back to India. The next day the photograph of the couple, Sudhir and Sovona, was published. Aarati came to know about the news and she committed suicide in the same night. Kamakhya became mad. He wanted to burn all the memories of Sudhir. In that fire Sudhir's mother Annapurna became blind. Her only wish was to meet Sudhir for once before her death. Sudhir came and called “Maa...” Annapurna removed the bandage from her eyes and from that she became cured. She could embrace her son.
