The first Night at the Museum outing (2006) was released here only in a Hindi dubbed version. It might help to recount that the fantasy-adventure dealt with a security guard at New York’s natural history museum where the exhibits come to life at night. The film struck a universal chord, raking in over $ 600 million at the global box office. Ergo this sequel, again helmed by the workmanlike Shawn Levy (Just Married). Of course, a feeling of déjà vu is unavoidable.Read full review3.0

Part 1 was funny and original. Part 2 is still funny without being original and has a much larger canvas of characters that come tumbling out of history, once the lights are turned off at the Museum. Night guard, Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) has a rescue mission at hand this time. Some of his friends, which include the heroic Midnight Cowboy, Jedediah Smith (Owen Wilson), have been packaged off to the Smithsonian, now that their original homeRead full review2.0

History has been brought back to life again, and this time round it's mostly at the Smithsonian where an ex-security guard, now new spangled entrepreneur, Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) arrives to save Natural American History's tallest figures from the anonymity of an underground storage vault. It's a wonderfully brilliant idea no doubt, but the narrative form adopted by Shawn Levy is far from able to bear the burden of more than a thousand years of history.Read full review2.0

If a film succeeds, a spin-off has to be made. If a formula works, it can be tried out again. Needless to say, the plot gets short shrift. So, if in the first instalment, Lary Daley (Ben Stiller) found purpose as the night-watchman of the New York Museum -- meeting Theodore Roosevelt (Robin Williams), Atilla the Hun (Patrick Gallagher) and all the other museum pieces that come to life -- and the producers heard the ring at the box office jackpotRead full review1.5

The only good thing one can say about a movie like Night At the Museum: Battle of The Smithsonian is that it provided gainful employment for a few hundred behind-the-scenes people. Since a lot of those people are wage-earners who need to continue to pay off their mortgages, good for them. This was clearly an enterprise undertaken solely to capitalise on the success of the previous film and allow another unimaginative Hollywood studio the opportunity to take more money awayRead full review1.0

Even more hare-brained than the first installment, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian stars Ben Stiller once again as Larry Daley, who has quit his job as a museum night guard to become a rich and successful businessman whose company specialises in such novelty items as glow-in-the-dark flashlights.Read full review
