Story

Nishibhor is a 1983 Indian Bengali drama film released on 1983. The film is directed by Rashbehari Singha.

A widow lived in a village with her two sons Ajay and Sujay. Ajay was her step child but she loved him as her own child. She was delighted to know that Ajay had fared well in his B.Sc. examinations. She was determined to fulfill Ajay’s dream of studying M.Sc. According to his mother’s suggestion, Ajay wrote a letter to his maternal uncle Jadu Bhattacharya asking for shelter during his stay in Kolkata. Uncle Jadu was reluctant to give excuses and said that he could keep Ajay for only a few days. The mother earned money by stitching clothes. After admission in a Kolkata college, Ajay met Pradip. Pradip let him stay at his uncle’s place where Ajay helped in the work. Ajay used to write to his mother often. One day Pradip’s cousin Polly arrived at Pradip’s place and seeing Ajay's dress mistook him for a cook. At his aunt’s request, Pradip decided to keep Ajay as Polly's tutor as he was good at his studies. Gradually Polly and Ajay fell in love. Polly's parents were fond of Ajay and decided to marry Polly with Ajay. Uncle Jadu hearing about Ajay’s marriage in a wealthy family rushed to meet his would-be father-in-law Amber Chatterjee. Meanwhile, Ajay visited and informed his mother about his marriage. After Ajay’s departure, his mother fell ill and was unable to provide for Sujay who dropped school and earned money for Ajay. After discovering his mother’s misery, Ajay at his mother’s suggestion decided to sell their land to his uncle. The uncle had no ability to buy the land but he conspired a plan and bought the land with Amber Chatterjee’s money. They paid Ajay’s mother half the price in front of two witnesses. The uncle lied to Ajay and accused his mother of not paying Ajay the entire money. Ajay suspected his mother of cheating him and this hurt his mother immensely. She then left home with Sujay. A doctor found the ailing mother and Sujay on the road and gave them shelter. One day Amber discovered that Jadu had misappropriated the money and made false allegations against Ajay’s mother. Amber caught the two witnesses who had given false evidence. Amber used to know the doctor and while inviting him to his daughter’s engagement found Ajay’s mother & brother at his place. On the day of the engagement, Amber proved Jadu’s treachery with the help of the witnesses. Ajay realised his fault and felt ashamed of his behaviour. Eventually, Ajay got united with his mother and brother.
