Nobel Chor is a 2012 Indian Bengali suspense thriller, drama, suspense film released on Feb 17, 2012. The film is directed by Suman Ghosh, produced by Aswani Sharma , music composed by Bikram Ghosh.

Rabindranath Tagore's Nobel was stolen from Shantiniketan. The protagonist of the film Bhanu is played by Mithun Chakrobarty and the film entirely centers on him. The story of this project will explore through the protagonist what Tagore and his philosophy means to people today. Saswata Chatterjee and Sudipta Chakrobarty play a couple. Saswata is a villager who had come to Kolkata long before Bhanu (Mithun) came, so Bhanu stays with him when he comes to Kolkata.

The film actually begins in docu style with several eminent people from various fields being shown to show their dismay at the turn around events after the theft. Soon after the film starts by showing by showing Bhanu, an illiterate villager living with his wife and son who stumbles upon the Nobel one day. He takes to the headmaster who is shocked to see what Bhanu has chanced upon. On his advice, Bhanu lands up in Kolkata to hand it over to the C.M with a reference letter written by the headmaster. After meeting Jeet, what happens to Bhanu’s life is expected. He comes across thugs, memorabilia collectors, private individuals who take him to be cash cow and last but not the least, the police. Hope and happiness turns into despair and dilemma. Perhaps the only character who stands by him is the private individual’s wife who understands his situation.

The Nobel Medal of great Indian Poet Rabindra Nath Tagore was stolen in 2004 and it was never found. This film is a fictional account of what might have happened to the medal. A poor farmer accidentally finds the medal lying outside his house. He embarks on a journey to return back the medal to the government but is later dragged in to selling it with the help of his friend in Kolkatta city. What he learns about great Tagore and how do people of today take his philosophy is what this film is all about. In his journey he encounters different people with different takes on Tagore. What happens to him in the end is also highly unexpected.
