Although he knew that the stem-roller of Justice could crush crime, he in good faith tried to reform the criminal with the olive branch of Merey. . True to his Faith, Jahandarshah once showed mercy to a young man though he was found guilty of seducing the sister of his body-guard. The law however, demanded the head of the offender. Being enraged at this, the brother of the outraged woman resolved to murder the King. The attempt luckily failed owing to the timely intervention of Safdarjung, the Kings deputy. . This incident made the king think seriously. Which was more effective? Justice or Mercy? For a convincing reply to this question, the king decided to tour foreign lands incognito and study things for himself. But before doing this the king thought it better to stay in his own kingdom and watch the condition of his own subjects. . . Then Jahandarshan cast off his disguise and appeared as king. Saeeda as tutored accused Safdarjung of seduction in open Court. What happened then ? see the climax on the Silver Screen. The king then appointed Safdarjung as Regent in his absence and apparently left his kingdom. He however remained in his capital in disguise and became a servant of Safdarjung. In this disguise the other orle that he took was that of a Fakir. . Sometime later th Regent himself had to deal with a case of seduction. A young man, by name Jameel, was found involved in the perpetration of the crime and Safdarjung in accordance with the law of the land sentenced him to death and ordered Razia, the woman in the case, to be exiled. . Jameel had a sister who was evry beautiful. He wanted her to go to the King and plead for him. The Fakir, who was in reality the king, helped them. But Saeeda, Jameels sister, failed in her efforts to save her brothers life because Safdarjung remained adamant. . Saeeda returned from the palace disappointed but the Fakir advised her to make another attempt. Saeeda interviewed Safdarjung a second time. . Human nature has its own weaknesses. Safdarjung, after seeing Saeeda, was caught in the snare of her beauty and had lost his heart to her. In the second interview Safdarjung made to her an alternate proposal. He showed his readiness to forgive Jameel is she consented to sell her honour to him. . Saeeda at this was all indignation and refused to sell her honour even for the sake of her dear brothers life. But to her utter grief and dismay her brother entreated her to save his life at any cost. The Fakir at last came to their rescue and asked Saeeda to make an appointment with the Regent. It was he who had arranged that Nadira, Safdarjungs forsaken wife, should take Saeedas place at the last moment and thus spend the night in company of her own husband. Saeeda acted up to the advice of the Fakir, kept up the appointment with Safdarjung, made him overdrink the glass of wine and at the crucial moment left him in his wifes company. The ruse was thus amazingly successful. Check out this page for more updates on Paak Daman.
