Palki 1967

Palki is a 1967 Indian Bollywood musical, family drama, costume film released on Jan 01, 1967. The film is directed by Mahesh Kaul.
The sublime heights of love and sacrifice of such classic legends as Laila-Majnu and Shirin-Farhad breathe fire and soul into "Palki" the intense love story of a poor young poet Naseem (Rajendra Kumar) and his beloved Mehru (Waheeda Rehman), who lived in Lucknow.....Their only hope of getting married is the prize-money which Naseem wins at a Mushaira held by the wealthy, aristocratic Nawab Mirza (Rehman). But the poet had refused that money because of a humiliation whcih he suffered at the Mushaira. At the moment of consummation of their wedded bliss the lovers leran that they were tricked into using the money. Swearing not to consummate the marriage until he earns the money and repays it, Naseem comes to Bombay. It was the year 1944 when in the Great Explosion Naseem is given up for dead. Back home Mehroo, now completely unhinged, is remarried to the Nawab himself ! A strange twist of Fate brings Naseem back to Lucknow to live under the very roof of the Nawab ! Mehroo learns that Naseem is alive. The Nawab lerns that his new wife is actually the wife of the poet. And the poet...? How sublime love, nobility and self-sacrifice play their lives, and causing Mehroo to leave the Nawabs home as an inert body in the arms of her grief-stricken poet-lover, makes a love-saga which scales great dramatic heights.
