Story, Synopsis, Trivia, Dialogues for Pardes (1997)

Pardes is a 1997 Indian Bollywood romance film released on Aug 08, 1997. The film is directed by Subhash Ghai, produced by Subhash Ghai under banner named Mukta Arts Ltd., music composed by Nadeem-Shravan.

This movie takes a serious look at the ceremonies of Westernized NonResident Indians (NRIs) in North America. But, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was about NRIs with Indian living, Pardes is about Westernized NRIs and hence the meaning of the story is "foreign land". Kishorilal is a successful businessman established in America but still emotionally connected to his motherland India. So the pardesi arrives to India with his "American" boy Rajiv to find an appropriate '"Indian" girl for him. Kishorilal thinks his soontobe bahu will imbibe some Indian values in his extremely westernized beta. He finds his daughterinlaw in Kusum in the house of his childhood buddy Suraj Dev. Mahima Chaudhary makes her named as Ganga. To finalize the wedding he sends his son along with his foster boy Arjun to India. Arjun plays Cupid and arrives to America with Kusum and Rajiv. Arjun comes into the film to get the Americanboy to accept Indian ethics, and support the Indiangirl to take the American vices. The reverse does not fit into this film. Arjun is depicted as an Indian at heart and the hero of the film! All is running very good till the true Bhartiya Nari finds out that her future beau is not a cheater. Then this heartbroken Kusum returns to India. Don't think that it is the end of the Bollywood story. It is just the beginning as Arjun falls in deep love with his wouldhavebeen bhabhi while playing Cupid and it takes to a love triangle between the three.
