Phata Poster Nikhla Hero is a 2013 Indian Bollywood comedy film released on Sep 20, 2013. The film is directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi, produced by Ramesh Taurani under banner named Tips Music Films.

Vishwas Rao (Shahid Kapoor) is elevated by his mother, Savitri (Padmini Kolhapure), who confidences that her son will raise up to be a courageous Inspector. But Vishwas wishes to turn out to be an actor. Outfitted as a Police Inspector for a photo shoot, he comes across a social worker Kajal (Ileana D'Cruz) through a car chase. Kajal blunders him as an inspector and appreciates him for helping her hook the attackers, while Vishwas dramas along. He is falsely published in the newsprint as an Inspector, which Savitri appreciates. She reaches in Mumbai to see her daydream come true, and situations lead Vishwas to convey on his lie not only to Kajal, but then again to his mother.

While shooting for a movie, Vishwas's mother arises to know that he is not an inspector and losses her consciousness. Doctor says that she needs to be functioned and the sum required is rupees ten lakh. He approves to work for Gundappa (the boss of the criminals Vishwas and Kajal held) for money where he wants to bring a CD for them. While dodging after getting the CD he is trapped by police and unintentionally shoots two police majors. Since he became a killer he was left with no new choice than to link Gundappa's gang.
