The 'success' of a film pretty much ensures that a sequel will be released as soon as the filmmakers can collect enough elements from the previous film to roll cameras. I suppose Phoonk by Ram Gopal Varma made enough money to justify the production of a sequel. The first one was about black magic, so I suppose this new one is about more black magic and a little revenge. This time around RGV has handed the directorial reigns to Milind GadagkarRead full review2.0

In Phoonk 2, which opens this week, the crazy woman with bloodshot eyes and a shrill cackle returns to torment the family that barely survived her black-magic in the last film. I know what you're thinking - they killed her in the previous film, didn't they? Well technically they did, but this time she's back. Madhu, played hysterically by Ashwini Kalsekar in Ramgopal Varma's Phoonk, doesn't get as much screen time in the sequel.Read full review2.0

The sequel to `Phoonk’ is not directed by Ram Gopal Varma, but the blueprint is definitely his. So is the plot, taking off from where the first `Phoonk’ left off, involving a back-from-the-grave evil spirit, rearing for vengeance. RGV’s 2008 original was more unwitting comedy than horror. `Phoonk 2’, we are happy to report, is not set up for laughs. What it does have, in abundance, is blood. It seeps down body parts, and pools on the floorRead full review2.0

You remember Madhu, played by Ashwini Kalsekar, in Phoonk? The black magic practising, evil woman, who unleashes havoc on an unsuspecting family. Well, she’s back in Phoonk 2. And the family, despite the trauma they suffered the first time around, is really slow on the uptake. So once again, they move into a large, remote house. And Rajeev, played by Sudeep, doesn’t suspect anything even when his son complains that a doll is moving its headRead full review1.5

Ramgopal Varma's love for horror and supernatural continues. This time, in PHOONK 2, the team behind PHOONK promise more chills, more thrills and more screams. But what you get to hear at the end of the screening is a moan, since PHOONK 2 lacks the chills, thrills and screams that were the mainstay of its first part. A sequel works if it goes one step ahead of the first part, in terms of content mainly.Read full review1.5

For a full 30 seconds, the camera pans on the open door. As it edges slowly towards it and the deafening background score threatens to burst your eardrums, the door slams shut. Nothing happens. The camera then shifts attention to a closed cupboard. As the music reaches an unbearable decibel level, the cupboard door hinges itself ajar. Nothing happens. The next moment, the maid is seen staring in horror at the kitchen wall.Read full review1.0

The motifs are straight out of the Bible, of horror filmmaking: there’s the flat doll; a gardener; a spirit that invades a haunted home (in this case, a beach-house), and enters a human body with a hoarse voice. There’s the bunch of doubters, who don’t believe in ghosts for the same reason atheists don’t believe in God: never seen ‘em. The hero of course is the last to convert from his faith (or the lack thereof). He moves in to the new houseRead full review1.0

Dear Ramu, As a ready reminder I reproduce here the SMS conversation we had a couple of days ago. Me: Hey Ramu. Are you having a show of Phoonk2 anytime before Friday? You: No, why? Me: Wanted to see it. (smiley) You: To rip it? Me: My my Ramu. Why so negative. I also like films sometimes. So let me know please if there is a show. You: This u will definitely not like… so I would rather u buy a ticket and see so that I will get at least that much money (smiley)Read full review1.0

It's about the undead crazy black magic woman (and not about the crow as producer RGV loves to claim in his many interviews to promote the film). Warning: I'm not going to go out of my way to bring you up to speed on the hows and whys of the first part's connection to this pompous sequel. Now a tween, Raksha (Ahsaas) scowls when reminded of the time she was ""sick"". Her dad Rajiv (Sudeep) asks no questions when the beti gets home strange dollsRead full reviewNR
