Story

Raja Saheb is a 1980 Indian Bengali drama, crime film released on Aug 29, 1980. The film is directed by Palash Bandyopadhyay.

Kripa Sindhu (Samit Bhanja) had returned from the dreaded clutches of Raja Saheb. He had lost his voice as his tongue had been severed by Raja Saheb. His wife Sita ( Sandhya Roy ) & daughter Kanchan recognised him. Coincidently his daughter was getting married on the same day. The movie then takes the audience back to some previous years and we see a young Sita, her brother Basanta ( Sukhen Das) & their father. Sita had a mentally retarded brother. Their new step-mother was hatching plans with her brother Nimu (Chinmoy Roy) in order to confiscate their property. Quite obviously the duo wrecked havoc upon the lives of the inmates of Sita's house. From landlords the brother-sister were made sarvants in no time. The new lady tortured, exploited, ill-treated & abused the children. Sita's brother had only one place to console his wounds -his mentor (Kripa Sindhu i. e. Samit Bhanja) the teacher of the village school. He was a true humanitarian, a man of values & principles. The judgement day came soon. A well executed plan by Sita's step-mother & uncle proved Sita's brother a drunkard & thief & Sita a characterless woman having an illegitimate affair with Kripa Sindhu. Kripa Sindhu then married her & the pair went off in despair. The reality of incidents of the character of Sita's step-mother & uncle were unravelled that very night. Sita's step-uncle fled. Sita's father was dumb struck with grief and died. In the meanwhile Sita & Kripa Sindhu reached the court. Raja Saheb, a sexual pervert & debauch at once gave Kripa Sindhu the job of carrying money to urban areas with the motive of enjoying his wife Sita. When Kripa Sindhu revolted Raja Saheb cut his tongue off & made him a prisoner in his cell. The movie ends with the death of Rani Maa & the transformation of the devil to saint. The self realisation of Raja makes him free Kripa Sindhu & ultimately Raja himself attends the wedding ceremony of Sita - Kripa Sindhu's daughter Kanchan. In the end one of the village girls whose father was killed by Raja Saheb kills Raja in return by throwing a venomous snake at him.
