The legend of the medieval bandit-hero has inspired scores of Hollywood movies ranging from the early Technicolour swashbuckler The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) to a Walt Disney cartoon (1973) and the 1991 blockbuster featuring Kevin Costner in the title role. Marking the fifth collaboration between director Scott and his favourite star Russell Crowe (Gladiator, A Good Year, American Gangster, Body of Lies)Read full review3.0

This is one more collaboration between the ace duo of director Ridley Scott and actor Russell Crowe. Yet, sadly, it ain't no Gladiator, neither in terms of histrionics nor on the scale of an epic. Blame it solely on the story. Scott has chosen on a period of time before the legend of Robin (of the) Hood was actually born. Naturally, this is a more conventional Robin who doesn't break the rules.Read full review2.5

Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood(Rusell Crowe) is a warrior just back from fighting the crusades. It’s in a way a new origin story for the much revered outlaw archer who hid in the Sherwood forests. Robin after returning the crown of the dead King Richard the Lionheart to his brother John, sets out to meet up with Maid Marion and start-up his future legend. In this film he is no legend, he is just an impersonator who finds outRead full review2.5

I do not doubtRead full review2.0

Director Ridley Scott's Robin Hood is the complicated and plodding back-story of one of our favorite legendary heroes. Scott takes us on a long and boring history lesson through 12th century England to show us how deadly archer Robin Longstride went from a soldier in the army of King Richard the Lionheart, to become the celebrated outlaw who robbed from the rich and gave to the poor.Read full review2.0

There's something about the Ridley Scott-Russell Crowe pairing that makes all the projects they take up oscillate between two extremes -- really interesting or plain boring. This time around, Scott takes us way back to the legend of the 12th century Scottish hero. Folklore has it that Robin stole from the rich and gave to the poor. But that isn't the sole premise of Scott's drama. In fact, that's the last thing the movie addresses. In fact, the focus is moreRead full review2.0

In my favourite screen adaptation of the Robin Hood legend, Prince John sucked his thumb. He whined and stamped his feet and cried for His Royal Mommy, even as he was goaded on to villainy by a persuasive, lissssping snake. But that was 1973, and as we look back fondly on that animated Disney version with Peter Ustinov voicing John, we must sadly concede that they -- or, in fact, we -- don't make 'em like they used to.Read full review
