Rock On!! 2 Movie Reviews

Rock On 2 is pretty much the most engaging and authentic sequel I’ve seen coming out  of Bollywood in recent times. If as Shakespeare volunteered, music is actually the food of love, then this film is a feast.

Like Rock On, this one is also about the male bonding, on and off the stage. Shraddha Kapoor’s presence adds a different dimension to it.

The script is a major downer. It is way too contrived, directionless and morose to hold your interest. With no strong conflict point to hold it all together, the story goes haywire. The narration tries too hard to manipulate your feelings and spoon-feed emotions by explaining the unsaid thoughts of the characters, depriving you the joy of discovering it for yourself. The music is shockingly weak. Barring the Usha Uthup track, it is not a patch on the former’s iconic tracks.

‘Rock On’ showcases some good performances, but it doesn’t recreate the youthful simplicity of the first part. And, most vitally, where is all the ‘rock’?

Rock On 2 does drag at certain points but the film has all the right ideas. Better still are the performances. Farhan Akhtar and Shraddha Kapoor sing reasonably well but they act to perfection. Farhan’s underplayed performance rocks you, there are moments when the tremble in his hands can give you gooseflesh. Shraddha gets the pitch of her fragile character right as well. She looks beautiful and has given one of her best performances ever. Arjun Rampal is impressive in his moments as well. The performances save it from the limitations of its writing and execution. Rock On 2 is nevertheless a bittersweet symphony.

‘Rock On 2’ is a musical journey with hits and misses. The nostalgia factor here takes it a notch up on our entertainment scale. If you were impressed with the spirit of ‘Magik’ in ‘Rock On!!’ then ‘Rock On 2’ will prove to be an effective outing for you this weekend.

There are a few, little surprises of this kind in the film. Also, it feels so good to see so many North-Eastern actors (even if some of them are non-actors) in a mainstream film. If only, Rock On 2 had better music and a little more effort in the parts of the puzzle that bring the film together.

Even though the filmmaker tried hard to match up to the standards set by Abhishek Kapoor in ‘Rock On’, he unfortunately failed in his attempt.

As a musical, Rock On 2 does not hit rock bottom at any point. But for the most part, the film finds itself trapped in rocky terrain. So its flow is staccato.

The performances are adequate at best, and the picture-postcard photography of Meghalaya is refreshing. But as you leave the cinema in the end, you can’t help missing the distinct sense of fun that the earlier film delivered…and yes, those infectious tunes. It’s an opportunity lost.

Rock On 2 was all about a generation, about love, about growing up, even chasing dreams. But this time round, Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Purab Kohli film has other plans in place.

Rock On 2 is staggeringly dull! Instead of energizing the scene, the newly introduced characters only prolong the dullness of a film that does more for the tourism of Meghalaya than it does for rock music.

Rock On 2‘s band Magik is completely tragic! If you were ever interested in forming a band, this one could kill your dreams!

Rock On 2 might have been a great concept on paper, but it just doesn’t become the sequel we all expected. Instead revisit the original and head bang to those tunes.

In terms of making an impact on its viewers, Rock On 2 will do nothing. The one thing it will do is boost the Meghalaya tourism.In all, watch Rock On 2 for the picturesque locales of Meghalaya. Else skip it.

ROCK ON 2 has no story, no good music and no entertainment value. With its slow paced narrative, limited buzz and the demonetisation move by the Indian Government, the film will be a disaster at the Box-Office.

Failing to ‘keep the faith’ with the eight year old ‘Magik’, ROCK ON 2 is a completely contrived and forced sequel that ‘loses its religion’ within few minutes and ironically qualifies for a sound tribute to REM (Randomly Executed movie) obviously I didn’t mean the band.

As far as performances go, every one does their bit but they are let down by a confused storyline. Watch this only if you are a Rock On groupie, otherwise skip it.

One wished they hadn’t ruined our memories of the first film. The makers failed to cast a ‘Magik’ spell this time! There’s no harm in skipping this one.

It is not terrible but when you go for this movie, despite the ample warning from its boring trailers, you ought to have expected what the film has proven – THE MAGIK HAS RUN OUT!Watch a rerun of Gattu’s movie instead; this one is a limp show. 

Rock On 2 is a mediocre film.It is far too emo, with a hideous subplot about an aspiring musician rejected by his classical musician father, one who wears a shawl as committedly and constantly as Thakur did in Sholay.

Forget good, there is hardly any music in most of Rock On!! 2. Save in the many flashbacks and in the needlessly protracted climax. The songs and melodies, instead of being well knit in the narrative, seem to stand jarringly outside of it. There is a wisp of a story, narrated in large chunks through that easy, lazy device — a run-of-the-mill voiceover.

Rock On 2 is like that stomach ache we get for liking a chocolate and then splurging too much on it. Even though the cast members are good, and the direction is decent, you can’t scream like a fanboy during this performance, like you did eight years ago. Magik may have returned, but the original magic is sorely missing. Avoid, if you don’t wanna get disappointed.

Rock On 2 is not even a one time watch. If you still want to, then please watch Rock On!! again coz trust me, the sequel has nothing new to offer you.

After 8 years the story of a broken band ‘Magik’ comes alive again. Barely. It is so slow you can see where the story if going a mile ahead. Each band member though busy with different things, deal with the death of young lad – who wanted to make music and whom they ignored – differently. This includes the sister of that boy who also makes music. The faraway village where one band member lives is burnt and the band comes together to save the village, and save themselves.

At a lot of places, the film takes the audiences’ sensibilities for granted.  As disappointing as it may sound, the sequel fails to rock. 

Rock On 2 is not insufferable, it is just hugely disappointing. They should have given it an alternative title: How To Fritter Away Goodwill For A Fondly Remembered Brand in 139 Minutes and Seven Seconds.

Magik is back with its magical music. Though there are a few changes in the members of the band, their music only gets better. With some fusion and tracks from the prequel, they will definitely rock your hearts.

Rock On 2 is a good attempt on following a band’s story. We miss Luke’s Rob but we do welcome the new band members who are effortlessly brought into the band. 

The characters have barely progressed since Rock On!!, and if anything, their bickering proves that they are frozen in the universe created by the first film. Aditya continues to be troubled by trifles; KD is still the enthusiastic peacemaker; Joe can’t seem to stop playing party-pooper.
