Saathi 1991

Saathi is a 1991 Indian Bollywood action, romance film released on Jan 01, 1991. The film is directed by Mahesh Bhatt, produced by Mukesh Duggal.

Ravi (Rajendra Kumar), a young doctor returns to India after completing his studies abroad. He is an orphan brought up by a couple who have a daughter Rajni(Simi). Rajni is in love with Ravi for many years. Ravi is a devoted doctor and takes up a job in a hospital. There he meets a young nurse Shanti(Vyjantimala) who is very committed to her work. Her mother who is suffering from cancer is convinced by Dr.Ravi to have an operation. She dies after the operation. Shanti is left alone. Ravi proposes marriage to Shanti and promises her that he will find a cure for cancer. Rajni who had always dreamt of marrying Ravi is very hurt. After marriage, Ravi is also smitten by his wife so much so that he doesn't concentrate on his work. Shanti reminds him of his promise to find a cure for cancer and supports him in his work. The day he comes home after being felicitated for his work, he finds that Shanti is very sick. The doctor tells Ravi that his wife has a congenital heart disease. Ravi takes very good care of his wife, but neglects his patients. This hurts Shanti so much that she blames her condition for his state of mind and behaviour. So she leaves the house and boards a train which meets with an accident. She is declared dead. Ravi is heartbroken and resigns from his post at the hospital. When he finds that his uncle who has brought him up is sick, he goes to see him. There Ravi finds that Rajni has not forgotten him and also that she has not yet married anyone. He explains to Rajni that seeing her father's condition, she should get married. She blackmails him into marrying her, though he tells her that he still loves Shanti. He ignores Rajni so much that one day she picks up a bottle of acid from the laboratory and tries to drink it. Ravi tries to stop her and its fumes affect his eyes and he becomes blind. In the meanwhile Shanti, who had escaped the accident is treated and cured in Switzerland with her former patient's help. She comes back to India and coincidentally lands up in Ravi and Rajni's house. She serves the now blind Ravi, as a nurse, calling herself Sharada. She helps Rajni by convincing Ravi to have an eye operation. When Ravi shows Shanti's photo to Sharada, Rajni happens to see it. She convinces Shanti to continue her life with husband Ravi who loves her very much. Rajni feels that Shanti and Ravi epitomise love. Rajni goes to serve in the Red Cross Society.
