Sadharan Meye is a 1991 Indian Bengali drama,crime film released on 1991. The film is directed by Samit Bhanja.

Recently Honest police inspector of Lalbajar Mr.Ranjit Mukherjee is very much worried about a local gang of criminals. This gang includes a bold & beautiful woman named Ranita Goswami'. Ranjit had met her earlier in a jewellery shop. This young lady was accused for burgling a number of times but whenever Ranjit tried to arrest her, she managed to escape due to lack of evidence. But this time Ranjit is determined to catch & unmask this lady. Lalbajar is very much concerned about this young I.C.'s efficency. So, he has given the charge to catch the drug smugglers & their crime racket. Ranjit is quite aware of his duty. In his list Ranita & a biker named Antony are among the main suspects. He investigates thoroughly and finally catches both of them, but within a few minutes he has to release them as per as orders from his superiors. On the other hand, Ranita & Antony both have a separate life & mission. Apart from their business & crime, they both are very sensitive, kind & unfortunate in their personal lives. Antony was an unwanted child, brought up like an orphan and finally chose this proffession to earn his bread. He lives in a slum, helps the dwellers with his earnings stands beside them whenever they needed. He is known as the prince of thieves in his locality. Ranita also returns to her suburban home every night. She is also the bread earner of her poor family. Her father Satyasadhan Bhattacharya is an ex-teacher of the local highschool. Her sister Shampa & the bed-patient little brother Buban waits eagerly for her arrival. Her poverty, miserable family condition and brothers treatment forced her to choose this crime as proffession. She has lost her elder sister three years ago who was burnt alive in her in-laws house. Ranjit the youngest son of a retired police officer, is not interested to marry as he has an elder sister who is a widow. But marriage negotiations come to him every day & night. His family insists him to marry. His father has choosen a girl friend Satyasadhan's daughter Sarbani for him. He sees her photograph and becomes surprised as the photograph resembles a lot with 'Ranita ' the main suspect among the drug maffias. he takes the photograph to the police artist and the truth reveals to him that Sarbani & Ranita' are the same girl only the make ups are different. Ranjit is very confused and decides to investigate the matter carefully. He reaches Sarbanis suburb home, meets her father who was his school teacher & sees the miserable condition of this family. He meets Ranita, alias Sarbani, reminds her about her childhood friend 'Runuda' who had once promised the girl not to leave her alone. Sarbani recognises her chilhood lover, gets emotional and tells her the truth about her past. She confesses how poverty & distress forced her to choose such a proffession. She speaks about her unfortunate life. Three yeas before, her elder sister was murdered by her in-laws. She went to the door to door seeking for justice. But police & administration didnot take any action. She went to her Avay uncle for a job but he sold her to a rich businessman. He tried to molest her in his chamber whereas Antony, a hired killer, saved her from those people. Later, she joined Antony's gang to fectch some money for her poor family. Thus, an innocent girl gradually turns into the queen Bee' of the city crime racket. They occurred a several numbers of crimes like bunglow robbery & drug smuggling. At the end of her story, she prays her 'Runuda' to forget & forgive her, as the girl he knew for years had died, and this is completely another girl. Ranjit remains silent, he can feel for the unfortunate girl. He decides to bring her back to the mainstream of life, from the darkness to the light, and to marry her after her punishment. He requests to stay herself away from the gang & promises to stand beside her family. Antony sees the couple and wishes them a happy life forever. he is indeed is very happy with his closest friends new dreams. But man proposes & god disposes. Within a few days, Buban's (Sarbanis brother) situation becomes more & more serious. He is taken to a city nursing home. Doctor calls for an urgent operation, he is admitted and the fees-fifty thousand rupees one needed within twenty four hours Sarbani doesn't waste time to think, she goes to her old gang and agrees to do her last operation. A bank robbery, to save her brothers life. Her boss of theri gang himself informs the police so that they can arrest Antony and Sarbani both. The next day at the noon, police in civil dress takes their positions, inside the bank. Sarbani (Ranita) & Antony enter, close the door and begin their operation. Within a few minutes they realise that the're trapped. After a long fight, they manage to escape from the spot. Sarbani & Antony flew away with a bike but a huge police force under Ranjits leadership, chase & follow them. Ranjit warns them to surrernder but they don't Antony forces her to leave and saves her life. He comes in the forefront and is shot by the Ranjit. He died in the streets & the girl is arrested. Buban also died in the operation table & is cremated in the city beside the river Gangas. Sarbani is taken to the lock up & later the case comes to the high court. The judge gives her three years inprisonment. Sarbani breaks into tears but Ranjit is waiting for the moment he promises to wait for her and stand beside her family. Ranjit parents also console this distressed girl and she is taken inside the prison van.
