Sasural 1961

Sasural is a 1961 Indian Bollywood musical, family drama, social film released on Jan 01, 1961. The film is directed by T. Prakash Rao, produced by Prasad under banner named Prasad Productions.

Shekhar (Rajendra Kumar) and his sister Gauri (Jayshree Gadkar) live with their uncle Dharamdas(Dhumal). Dharamdas tries to marry off Gauri with an old man, so she runs away from home. She is saved from committing suicide by Rajen Murari (Anwar Hussain) who than marries her. However she does not realise that Rajan intends to live off her earnings from stage performances. Meanwhile Shekhar meets Bela (Saroja Devi) and they fall in love. Bela is the daughter of Thakur (Bipin Gupta) a rich businessman. He is impressed by Shekar's good nature and capabilities and consents to their marraige though Bela's mother (Lalita Pawar) is not too happy about this. However Shekhar has to live as a Ghar Damaad as Bela is the only daughter. Thakur soon gives complete responsibilities of managing his business to Shekhar. Shekhar finds out that Deewan Govindramji (Wasti) is misusing his position. Shekhar takes complete control of the business. The deewan is not very happy and starts creating misunderstandings between Shekhar and Bela. Meanwhile the Deewan also tries to get his son Rajan into the business. Rajan leaves Gauri and now Gauri is tracked down by Shekhar. When Thakur leaves his entire property to Shekhar the rift between him and Bela only widens. Shekhar now has to bring back his sister's lost respect and also clear the misunderstandings between him and Bela. A parallel love story between Mahesh(Mehmood) and Seeta(Shobha Khote) who is Dharamdas daughter also takes place in the movie.

After the wedding it is customary for the Bride to stay at her Father- in-laws house. But in the story of "Sasural" it is quite the oppostie After her wedding "Bela" did not go to stay with her husband in her Father-in-laws house, instead "Shekhar" her husband came to stay with his Fathar-in-law. . "Bela" is the only daughter of Thakur Sahebm a rich Mica Mine owner. Brought up in the lap of luxury, Bela has developed a quick temper. Govindram a wily old man, is in charge of Thakur Sahebs Factory. He wants to own it by getting his son Radhe Murari married to Bela. Even Belas mother is agreeable to this proposal. But Bela loves her college mate Shekhar and Thakur Saheb finds him an intelligent and capable boy. So Bela and Shekhar are married and Govindram becomes crazy with the idea of revenge. He plans to poison the mind of Bela and her mother against Shekhar and he starts on his plan in right earnest. . One day Shekhar goes to the theatre with Bela. He is shocked to find his missing sister Gauri dncing on the stage. He feels much ashamed. After the perdformance he goes to meet Gauri and gives her his piece of mind. But when he comes to know that Gauri is innocent and she has joined the Dancing Unit only to search for her husband who has left her in the lurch, Shekhar feel sorry and tries to comsole her. As the brother and sister embrace each other, Bela sees them and without caring to find out the truth walks out in anger. . Next day Thakur Saheb sends awsy Shekhar to give Rs. 10,000/- to his sister and he takes from Shekhar a promise not to divulge this to anyone. In this connection Shekhar is away from home for there days. . Govindram who comes to know of this, poiosns Belas mind saying that Shekhar is young that he has plenty of money and that it takes no time for such a young man to go astray. Bela is made ot believe that Shekhar has fallen in the trap of some dancing girl. . In the absence of Sekhar, Thakur Saheb meets with and accident he wants to assign half of his entire property to Bela and Radhe Murari, son fo Govindram is made the Manager of the Mica Mines.
