Girdhari, his lovely daughter Dhaniya and her lover work in small theatre of a village surrounded by picturesque hilly terrain. The dream of Dhaniya and Kundan is to have a small cottage after their marriage. But their dream is eluded by poverty. . In the meanwhile, a film director, who is hunting location for his movie, lands at the village. A suprise awaits him, when he comes across Kundan and Dhaniya. Attracted by Dhaniyas charming beauty, the director tempts her with the offer of a role in his film. He is confident of her success as an actress Kundan pleads with Dhaniya to accept the offer so that Dhaniya whould be able to get plenty of money It means their dream to have a small cottage will come true. . Having accpted the directors offer, therefore, the couple reach Bombay with great hopes but as their efforts to trace him fail, they go to dwell in a slum area where they come across one Raju, whose job is to stick film posters on the wall. He too notices the potential artiste in Dhaniya and ihtroduces the couple to one Ravi Babu, a film poster painter, who in turn introduces them to a film director Basu-da Dhaniya is included in a documentary, Basu-da offers her a leading role in his feature length film. . Soon, Dhaniyas fame as a top film star reaches dizzy heights. With success after success leading to fame fortune, the simple village beauty Dhaniya disappears and in her place emerges famous film star Sarita Devi given to a luxurious life with posh bungalow, lmpala car, a host of servants and what have you. . But all this achievement of Dhaniya, the Sarita Devi, fails to appeal to her lover Kundan. He dislikes her modern life and remembers the good old days when she was a simple village beauty. But her dream of gaving a small cottage, is shattered. . The things come to worse, when Dhaniyas sister her husband Somnath come to Bomaby. The greedy couple, who are after Dhaniyas wealth, succeed in thier plan to create a micunderstanding between Kundad and Dhaniya. A disappointed Kundan goes back to his village. . As days pass, wisdom dawns on Dhaniya when she understands the reasons that separated her from Kundan, Instantly, all her achievements, fame name and fortune mean nothing to her. She longs for Kundan, who is far oway from her. . Kundan in the village is shocked to read the news of Sarita Devis suicide in the Newspaper.
