S.S. Rajamouli, the creative genius, holds the enviable record of delivering stupendous Blockbusters in a row. His films, consequently, have been remade in various Indian languages... the Hindi film industry has woken up to his brilliance as well. VIKRAMARKUDU was remade as ROWDY RATHORE, EEGA was dubbed in Hindi as MAKKHI and now, Rajamouli's MARYADA RAMANNA gets a Hindi avatar -- SON OF SARDAAR -- after being remade in Kannada and Bengali languages

Move over Chicken Khurana, the real butter kukkad is here. And he's here with a bang this Diwali - singing, dancing, flipping in the air - all in the mustard fields of Phagwara (that's in Punjab, FYI), classic Bollywood ishtyle. Except that this is a Singham getting Dabangg and Rowdier than any Rathore - on Punjabi steroids - and in total sardaar avatar. Hadippa! So bring out that tall glass of chilled lassi and let's figure the why, what, who of this desi-ghee story

This one is for die-hard fans of the Bollywood masala genre. There is larger-than-life herogiri, gravity-defying maar-dhaad, cheesy dialogue-baazi and a happy ending. Son of Sardaar opens with a song that lists the many virtues of the community. And almost immediately, the action moves to a London nightclub where our turbaned hero Jaswinder Singh Randhawa aka Jassi (Ajay) beats up the baddies with some help from a Pathan buddy

Though 'Son of Sardaar' has been pitched as a quintessential Diwali entertainer, the sparks and explosions are limited to one half of the film. Frankly, you do want the film to be indeed a 'paisa vasool' affair but if at all the film has to be seen till the very end, it has to be with curbed expectations without looking at it as a huge 'dhamaka' in the offering. The core plot of this Ashwani Dhir directed film is quite interesting. Scions of two warring families

There is a reason why Yash Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan are called the Kings of Romance, they have managed to weave one unforgettable love story after the other that remains etched in our memories. 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan', Yash Chopra's last directorial venture had created ample pre-release buzz and the anticipation in the theatre was palpable. 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' is yet another impossible love story made believable by the conviction of the makers

Certain portions are a bit of a drag, but the comic sequences will make up for the monotony. The cast has put up a good show. Overall, SOS is worth a watch, a complete family entertainer!

In true Diwali spirit, Son of Sardaar arrives with a loud cacophony of guns, stunts and some overdone Punjabi slapstick. Works as timepass but hurts the ears. After all, how many bloodthirsty Punjabis can you see chasing in jeeps and flying through the air in one film with the Son of Sardaar war song thumping in the background? Well, to make a short story long, here is the plot. There’s a village where it is sufficiently normal to see riot-like long queues

Son of Sardaar is amongst that category of films which are devised more as a business proposition over sheer love for cinema. Ajay Devgn decides to produce a film. The story is derived from a South film ( Maryada Ramanna, which in turn was a remake of a 1929 black-n-white silent American film Our Hospitality) - a supposed sure-shot success formula in contemporary times. The Telugu arena is substituted by a Punjabi backdrop - a milieu more assimilative

If you like taking your brains to the movies, then 'Son of Sardaar' is tiring, loud and you may want to sit this one out. You'll leave the theatre with your ears ringing and the din of a thousand exploding crackers in the street will sound like sweet music. But to be fair, the makers of this movie did not lie. The trailers and songs of Ajay Devgn's production promised reason- & gravity-defying entertainment and on these counts, SOS delivers

In the UK we call it marmite (a food substance), you will love it, or you will hate it! Perhaps a more apt desi description is sweet or salted lassi. You either prefer sweet lassi, or you prefer salted lassi, or maybe even both. Hell, why not have a cocktail of sweet and salty! In any case that is the verdict with SOS. If you loved Wanted and Dabaang, or even Devgn’s own Golmaal series and his recent Bol Bachchan then SOS is definitely for you.

In 1923, Buster Keaton directed a delightful comedy titled Our Hospitality, about a multi-generational family feud. The last descendent of one family returns to his native village after many years. The rival family wants to kill him but they have a rule about not harming houseguests, so as long as he is in their house, he's safe. Now, 89 years later, the story arrives in Bollywood via Telugu cinema (SS Rajamouli first made it here, as Maryada Ramanna)

That message is driven home loud and clear and many times over in director Ashwni Dhir's Son of Sardaar, intended presumably as comeuppance for a community that has forever been stereotyped as cheerfully dimwitted in Hindi movies. Dhir, unfortunately, does little to shatter that cliche, but he does put Sardars front and centre in this harebrained action-comedy, portraying them as large-hearted and fearless, and capable of performing all sorts of gravity and logic-defying stunts

Empty vessels make the most noise and that stands true for Son Of Sardaar . It lacks a good script and is packed to capacity with a lot of action and masala. Ajay Devgn's entry shot on two horses, the bravo sikh dialogues, the jokes and the Iron Man hand that makes people fly in the air, there is that and a lot more that will keep the whistles going at the cinemas. Son of Sardaar is the remake of a Telugu film Maryada Ramanna by S.S. Rajamouli but is a lot different

Somewhere in a London Pub, Rajveer Singh (Ajay Devgn) is giving gyaan to a fellow sardar, surrounded by English goons. One of them (goons) goes for his turban. Singh seethes: "Sardar par joke karna, par joker mat samajna." You are then treated to a full-fledged Tamil ishtyle fight sequence with Rajveer even bouncing one English goon like a tennis ball! Well, you can't really blame the makers for this dynamic influence because SON OF SARDAAR is a remake of a south film

If you fancy jokes on Sardaars, the kind that are regular in joke books and smses, Son Of Sardaar is the film for you. Director Ashwni Dhir’s film is best described as a compilation of the most popular jokes on Sikhs. In the film, some of them make you laugh while others bore you out of your skull. There are no two ways of what SOS tries to do. From its introductory shot the film makes it clear with the lines Jiska MC BC mein hai pyar, jo hai dildaar

A long-standing family feud and two innocent lovers caught in the crossfire. So wherefore art thou originality? Well, this one does come with some racy action anda fistful of funny moments garnished generously with a strong Punjabi tadka. The Plot: Jassi urf Jaswinder Singh (Ajay Devgn) is a happy-go-lucky Punjabi munda except when he is provoked to stand up and save himself. Working for his friend (Salman Khan) and his chachu, Jassi is contented

Son Of Sardaar opens with Ajay Devgan’s bone-crunching fight scene in a club. In a guest appearance in the film, Salman Khan packs a few punches for his sardar friend and warns the goons, “Pathan ke yaar ke saath panga mat lena.” There’s a certain smugness in this whole sequence that pervades the entire movie and proves Sallu bhai really wrong. NRI Jassi (Ajay Devgn) gets a courier from India after the above mentioned fight

In a recent interview, a film-maker described a movie as one “made with a calculator”. He might just have been talking about Ashwni Dhir’s “Son of Sardaar”. For a film that talks of heart and emotion, this is a movie made with cold-hearted calculation. “Son of Sardaar” is a Diwali film, made with the sole intention of making money during the festival of lights, and stuffed with what Bollywood thinks is the complete package — romance, comedy and action

A remake of the Telugu hit Maryaada Ramanna directed by SS Rajamouli, who himself whacked the premise from a 1920s Buster Keaton hit, Son of Sardaar is only sporadically entertaining, and peddles the same tired stereotypes of Punjab and Sikhs. A cameo by Salman Khan, sadly, doesn’t make up for the film’s many flaws.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please sing this to the tune of Mambo Number 5. One, two, three, four, five …Ajay Devgn’s on a high. A sardar in this film he’s become Guess he’s gonna boost his Diwali income It’s so unfunny, it’ll put you to sleep It’s so shallow, it’ll make you weep. He likes Sonakshi, Sanjay, Salman, Juhi, and Arjan Worse than most, this will surely gross a ton, Pull out your hair, the jokes will make you fret Please set it in the trumpet

It takes a mini deluge to bring Son of Sardaar to an end. In the climactic duel between the protagonist (Ajay Devgn) and his chief adversary (Sanjay Dutt), the former is hurled against a water tank. On impact, the thick reservoir wall caves in and a torrent gushes out, carrying bricks, mortar and the two brawling men with it. All hate is washed away in a jiffy and the woman (Juhi Chawla) who has waited a quarter century for this moment of reckoning in order to marry

Back in school, around this time every year the rehearsals for the Nativity play would begin amidst much excitement. All of us who got selected to be part of it thought we were brilliant; the teachers who directed it thought they were brilliant too and the young students who were part of the audience clapped at the right moments during the play and patted our backs at the end of it. Later as I grew up and thought it rather childish to act in Nativity plays

By God, at times you feel this loud, flamboyant, ostentatious yet-all right, admit it-sinfully engaging film should just pipe down. There is so much that’s noisy about this film. And we aren’t talking about Sandeep Chowta’s over-accented background score. Yet it’s never unpleasant noise. Son Of Sardaar takes us into the core of a family feud in Punjab where Sanjay Dutt, playing a goofy oddball of a Panjabi patriarch as only he can, wants our affable
