Shyams family had migrated to Maurititus years ago to better its prospects. Where his forefathers failed, Shyam prospered and married Rukmani, the daughter of a millionaire. In Shyams establishment is an employee Radha, a Harijan, who is close to Shyam. Shyams relative poison Rukmanis ears, who is told that Radha has illict relations with him. Radha, however, removes her self from Shymas life so as not to spoil his marital life. - The story of "Souten" is actually the story of a man of steel, who was of Indian origin but took birth on the soil of Maurituis. He was the extension of the ambitious of his poor father- mother and uncle, who had come to Mauritius to seek a very bright future. The steelman-Shyam achieves at a very young age, what his nearnones had dreamt of. During the days of struggle, Shyam comes in contact with Rukmini -a vivacious young and a millionaire only daughter of a business magnate. They both fall in love at the very outset of their meeting and get married. . But the ways of love - and specially of the married love - are not simple and straight! Someones happy and contended love becomes an eyesore for some on the one hand and on the other hand the same glorious love becomes a source and cause of love for some one else - for that person who loves the lovers! And that who in this story is another woman called Radha. Radha is a Librainian by profession and the daughter of the Harijan Accountant, who serves in the establishment of Shyam. The different fragnance of Radhas love and gratitude towards Shyam is misunderstood by his wife Rukmini and the source of her information on Shyam and Radha is the duo of her maternal uncle Sampat and her step-mother. The crooked duo has an eye on Rukminis wealth which by virtue of her marriage to Shaym cannot come to them. . And this crooked duo plans and plays havoc with Shyam and Rukminis marital life. They some how manage to bring Rukmini under their spell and thumb and take her to the extent of starting divorce case against husband Shyam. .
