DURGA (NIRUPA ROY) GIVES BIRTH TO TWINS. HOWEVER, HER HUSBAND, VIKRAM KAPOOR (AMJAD KHAN) IS A DRUNKARD & A WOMANISER AND DOES NOT ACCEPT HIS SONS & HIS WIFE. NOW THE MOTHER IS HELPLESS & IN SEARCH OF A LIVELIHOOD. BY TWIST OF CIRCUMSTANCES THE TWO TWINS ARE SEPARATED. ONE OF THEM IS TAKEN BY A HANDICAPPED MAN NAMED BHASKAR (JEEVAN) WHO SELLS THIS BOY FOR THREE HUNDRED RUPEES TO JAGGI (KADER KHAN). HE MAKES THE BOY A DRUNKARD & A STREET SIDE GOON NAMED AMIT (AMITABH BACHHAN). THE OTHER SON WHO LIVES WITH THE MOTHER GROWS UP INTO AN HONEST & BRAVE POLICE OFFICER NAMED KISHAN (SHASHI KAPOOR). CIRCUMSTANCES BRING BOTH THE BROTHERS TOGETHER & THEY BECOME CLOSE PALS BUT THEY BOTH DON’T KNOW THAT THEY ARE REAL BROTHERS. AMIT LOVES A DANCER (REKHA), KISHAN FALLS IN LOVE WITH ANNU (PARVEEN BABI) WHO IS A STUDENT & THE YOUNGER SISTER OF BASANTI (REKHA). NOW THEIR FATHER VIKRAM (AMJAD KHAN) HAS BECOME A BIG TIME CRIMINAL & HIS RIVAL IS JAGGI (KADER KHAN). JAGGI & HIS SON (RANJEET) NAMED GOPAL PLAN TO ELIMINATE VIKRAM. HOWEVER AFTER A SERIES OF ACTION PACKED SEQUENCES & MELODRAMA AMIT & KISHAN REALIZE THE TRUTH THAT THEY ARE BROTHERS. THEY BOTH UNITE TO ELIMINATE JAGGI & HIS SON. LATER VIKRAM GIVES HIMSELF TO POLICE CUSTODY & BOTH THE BROTHERS GET MARRIED TO BOTH THE SISTERS & LIVE HAPPILY FOREVER

Durga with her new born twins approached her husband Vikram with request to accept her. Vikram dismissed her plea an dthrew her out on the streets. Durga ursed that some day his own sons would seek revenge for his act. Jaggi sympathised with Durga and on the pretext of taking her to his house took her brothel. A timely intervention by a polie officer saved Durgas integrity Jaggi escaped under the cover of one of the new borns. Jaggid sold the little child to Pascal, who run an illict liquor trade. Amit grew up to become a toughy and an addict alcholic, his second love was Basanti a dancing girl. Kishan grew under his mothers care and become a police officer. . Jaggi in due time controlled a part of the underworld and joined Vikram as partner. . The obstacle in Vikrams activities was police offier Kishan. Vikram hired Amit to kill Kishan. Not knowing that Amit and Kishan were great friends. Amit faked the killing but Vikram wanted to vail the coffin he shot Kishan and in the event Kishan was blinded. . Amit joined the police fored giving up his addiction and promissed Kishans girls friend Annu to avenge his friends blindness. Jaggi and Vikram became power crazy and split. . Amit shot Vikram who in an injured state took refuge at Dugas house. But his secret soon gave way. Amit and Kishan on his track. Vikram escaped in a helicopter not knowing that Jaggi had already planted a time bomb. Durga pleaded with her sons Kishan and Amit to save her Suhaag.
