Suraj 1966

Suraj is a 1966 Indian Bollywood costume film released on 1966. The film is directed by T. Prakash Rao, produced by S. Krishnamoorthy under banner named Venus Pictures.

Vikram Singh & Sangram Singh are the rulers of two different states who promise each other to let their kids marry when they grow up. As a token Maharaj Vikram Singh gifts a necklace to Sangram Singh's son Pratap. The necklace gets stolen & the innocent & honest Ramsingh is accused of the theft. The humiliated Ramsingh avenges his insult by kidnapping Pratap & after a few years replacing his own son as the lost Prince. Ramsingh renames Pratap as Suraj (Rajendra Kumar) who grows up to become a handsome & brave man. Ramsingh trains Suraj to become a burgler who loots the houses of the rich. Pratap (Ajit) becomes a prince who rapes women, persecutes his public & harrasses the innocents. The time to execute the promise comes close & Vikram Singh sends his daughter Geeta (Vyjayantimala) to see Pratap before the marriage. But Geeta decides to go there in the guise of a servant. But Geeta falls for Suraj. Suraj & the others come to know the truth & in the duel that follows Pratap gets killed.

The theme of `Suraj in a nutsheell is - "Truth shall Prevail". . Ram Singh, a loyal retainer of kin Sangram Singh is unwittingly wronged by his master. Ram Sigh vows vegeance ! And his vendatta knows no bounds. He schemes to undo what the Gods did. . Sangrams infant son is kidnapped by Ram Singh and the latters own son of the same age is planted in the palace as the prince. . When the two infants grow up, the ral prince has been turned by Ram Singh into a daredevil bandit named Suraj! He has been tutored by Ram Singh to hate his ral father, the king. Ram Singhs aim is that Sangram should some day hang his own son as an outlaw while Ram Singh son should succeed to the throne and marry princess Anuradha. . Man propses and God disposes. It is much worse when man yearns to dispose what God himslef proposed. It is not prince Pratap who wins princess Anuradhs love - but the bandit Suraj. Suraj who believes Ram Singh to be his father has turned out to be a brave and kind young man On the other hand Ram Singhs real son, though brought up in the palace as prince Pratap had turned out to be a villian and a tyrant. Anuradha knows that Suraj hates royalty, so to keep his love she masquerades as a commoner. The same commoner is passionately desired by Pratap who aducts her forcibly. . Naturally, there is a clash between Pratap and Suraj - and what a clash ! On one side there is all the might and armies of a princely tyrant on the other side, ther is the indomitable courage of a lion - bearted bandit.
