Story

Tintorettor Jishu is a 2008 Indian Bengali thriller, adventure film released on Jan 01, 1970. The film is directed by Sandip Ray, produced by Sumita Bhattacharya.

“Tintorettor Jishu” revolves around a painting creating by the Italian Maestro TINTORETTOR during the ages of Renaissance. Soumyasekhar Niyogi, an enlightened Samaritan who has a rich legacy of culture & wealth resides with his family in a massive mansion at Baikunthapur. Soumyasekhar’s uncle Chandrasekhar Niyogi was an artist of high caliber who went to Italy, married & settled there. Chandrasekhar & Carla (his wife) bore a solitary offspring Rudrasekhar who remained as an Italian citizen. After 1955 Chandrasekhar went missing (meanwhile he had returned to India). In the 1982, Soumyasekhar found out that Rudrasekhar had arrived from Italy to claim his share of property. As Soumyasekhar had never seen his cousin before he had to acquaint according to his legal documents. In the same day a man categorizing himself as a journalist came at the Niyogi palace. His name was Rabin Chowdhury and he explained that he was writing about the works of Chandrasekhar Niyogi. Now the day Rudrasekhar arrived a mishap occurred in the mansion. Soumyasekhar hunter dog THUMRI was poisoned to death. Meanwhile Feluda, Topshe and Jatayu arrived at the mansion after meeting Soumyasekhar’s elder son Nabakumar. Though Feluda finds the murder of a dog quite fishy he shows no formal inclination to investigate. They stay for a day, discuss and evaluate Chandrasekhar’s life, works and his most prized possession (the original painting by Italian artist TINTORETTOR). But within days after they arrive in Kolkata they gets a call from Nabakumar mentioning that the caretaker/butler Bankim babu has been slaughtered. The trio goes back to the Niyogi palace and Feluda discovers that Rudrasekhar has been absconding and he has stolen the original painting and replaced it by a fake one. It becomes evident that Rudrasekhar murdered Bankim babu, stolen the canvas and departed to Kolkata for selling the painting to a maverick broker named Hiralal Somani, a criminal in his own right. Somani has plans to sell the painting to business tycoon Mr. Walter Kricorian (who resides in Hong Kong) an Armenian by Rudrasekhar tries to play games with Somani only to be beaten up & gagged by his mates. Rudrasekhar doesn’t even get a pie, while Somani bags the original masterpiece & flies up ti Hing Kong to settle a raw deal. Meanwhile Feluda reveals every movement of Rudrasekhar and tracks out the actions & their causes. On top of this journalist Rabin Chowdhury gives him startling information that Rudrasekhar Niyogi had expired way back in July 1955, leaving wife Vittoria & their only son Rajsekhar. This fact proves that the person, who had arrived at the mansion posing as Rudrasekhar, is an outright imposter. Feluda, Topshe and Jatayu chase Somani and explain Mr. Kircorian about the fable behind his coveted fresco. But strangely the original painting was missing. The three musketeers return to Kolkata and arrived at Baikunthapur after a day. Feluda unmasks the real incidents citing that the false Rudrasekhar was none other then Nabakumar own younger sibling Nandkumar Niyogi (who went off to Bombay for becoming an actor) who was the culprit behind every calamity. He come back after years of unrest and in the disguise of a much older man and almost bewildered everyone except the master detective. Journalist Rabin Chowdhury is discovered as Chandrsekhar’s grandson, Rudrasekhar’s son and Nabakumar’s cousin Mr. Rajsekhar Niyogi, who had kept the painting in sound and safe custody. Feluda, Nabakumar and Soumyasekhar awards the priceless and timeless work of art to a true artist who also turns out to be the legal inheritor of TINTORETTOR JISHU.

The Niyogis at Baikunthapur possesed an old painting of Jesus Christ (Jishu) by famous Italian painter Tintoretto. It was lazing on a wall in the studio of painter Chandrashekhar Niyogi, a member of the family who got the artwork as a gift from his Italian in-laws. He left home twenty years ago to study fine arts in Italy.

The painting lay idle, till an article in an English newspaper, contributed by Maharaja Bhudeb Singh of Bhagawangarh, estimated its market price— a whopping $ 1 million. Bhudeb was a friend of Chandrashekhar. He had summoned the artist to his estate to get his portrait done long back, and developed a friendship since.

The article kicked off a chain of events at the Niyogi residence.

A young man comes to the fore out of nowhere, claiming to be Rudrashekhar Niyogi — the son of Chandrashekhar who grew up in Italy. He holds that the artwork is his inheritance from his dead father.

Then, one of the two pet fox terriers of the family is poisoned to death.

Enter Hiralal Somani, an art dealer. He offers to buy the masterpiece.

At this point, a chance meeting of Nabakumar, another member of the Niyogi clan, with Feluda brings the private detective to Baikunthapur. Nabakumar insists that Feluda look into the strange murder of the dog. Having established a link between the painting and the dog’s death, he, along with Jatayu and Topshe, leaves for Bhagawangarh. Once there, Maharaja Bhudeb Singh reveals some information that stuns the detective, and the course of investigation changes.

Back home, Feluda discovers that Rudrashekhar has vanished. And a knockoff has changed place with the original artwork. He gets a hint that the original is heading for Hong Kong, a free-haven for art-smugglers.

Feluda must travel to Hong Kong now to save the painting from the clutches of smugglers. Who scripted the deceit—Rudrashekhar, Somani or somebody else? Will Feluda be able to bring the artwork back?
