Story, Synopsis, Trivia, Dialogues for Vasantsena (1942)

Vasantsena is a 1942 Indian Bollywood costume film released on 1942. The film is directed by Jagirdar, music composed by Master Krishna Rao.
Based of Shudrakas classic 3rrd-C. Sanskrit play Mrichakatika, the main plot of the Brahmin Charudattas (Modak) love for the courtsan Vasantsena (Vanamala) is interwoven with a parellel plot concerning the popular revolt in Ujjain against the despotic King Palaka, whose state is effectively run by his tyranical brother-in-law Shankar (Jagirdar/Kiljatkar). The rebels want to replace him with the Gopalaputra Aryaka. The film belongs mainly to Atre and is one of his occasional departures from comedy to update a classic text into a contemporary idiom.
