Vidyarthi is a 1966 Indian Bollywood family drama, social film released on Jan 01, 1966. The film is directed by Talib Hussaini.
Jeewan was a poor student who had out a living not only to feed himslef and pay for studies but to support his mother as well, who solely depended on him. He did odd jobs like polishing shoes and hawking news papers in his childhood. His mother dreamt of making Jeewan worthy student and ideal citizen. Jeewan entered his collage career with flying colours and still earned his living by coaching Geeta, who was orphan. . Jeewans simplicity and brilliance attracted his class-fellow Shanti, a rich girl towards him. Another girl Sadhana was also in love with Jeewan but it was a one way affair. Jeewans mother noted the symptoms of a love lorn heart in him and implored him to refrain from these extrenous adventures for the only aim of a student was to complete his educational career first. Jeewan gave his mother a solemn pledge not to meet Shanti till he completed his education. . Time and tide wait for none. Jeewans mother fell seriously ill and as the luck would have it Jeewan was not able to manage peoper treatment for her. He thought of borrowing money from Shanti. When he went to her residence, he found Shantis father accused him of willfull attack on his only son. The police arrested Jeewan on grave charges of homicide. It was later revealed by Sadhanas pains - taking efforts that Manoranjan was shot by the leader of a gang of smugglers who brought contraband gold to sell to Sajjan who was otherwise known as a law abiding citizen. Manoranjan made quick recovery in the hospital and he told the police the facts which were unbelieveable but true. . It was too late. When Jeewan returned home, his mother had expired. The time machine moved fast. While Jeewan finished his last examinati- on paper, Principal informed him that he had been selected as an officer in the Indian Army.
