Hollywood seems to be obsessed with 'destruction' of late. Movies revolving around attacks of epic proportions by aliens, zombies, pandemics or terrorists seem to be the much sought-after theme, World War Z, Man of Steel and Pacific Rim being recent ones. Master of disaster films, Roland Emmerich, adds to the ongoing trend as he too sticks to his trademark genre. This time around, he blows up the White House (on the lines of Olympus Has Fallen)

John Cale (Channing Tatum) is a capitol police officer with a dream of making it to the secret service protecting the most important man on the planet- the President of the United States. An average Joe, he’s also dealing with a divorce situation where his 11-year-old daughter Emily (Joey King) has that indifferent phase going on. A trip to the White House changes everything when anti-American hostile forces take over the

Roland Emmerich’s White House Down highlights the perfect paradox -- a highly political story packaged in a harebrained action flick. Coming from the producers of Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, White House Down borrows heavily from cult-status action films such as Die Hard, Air Force One and True Lies. Staying true to the tough guy formula, White House Down stars Channing Tatum as US Capitol Police officer John Cale

White House Down, the latest conflagration from that master blaster Roland Emmerich, is as demented and entertaining as promised, and a little less idiotic than feared. Once again, for reasons best left to him and his therapist, he has created a pop diversion about the near-destruction of the world. Maybe he just likes playing with matches. Yet as you watch the White House go up in flames - an image that doesn't provoke the same shock or giggles

Even the corniest action blockbusters must possess a smidgen of logic, or credible characters, in order for you to be invested in its thrills. 'White House Down' is the second movie this year - after the Gerard Butler starrer 'Olympus Has Fallen' - in which a band of terrorists invades the most secure address in Washington to capture the US President. In both films, it's left to an unlikely hero to save the day. But where Olympus succeeded

Close on the heels of the similarly-themed Olympus Has Fallen, comes another president-in-peril adventure. Filled with as many plot twists as it has plot holes, White House Down is sillier than its predecessor. It’s also much funnier, inadvertently so, of course. Carnage meister Roland Emmerich (The Day After Tomorrow) tends, as always, to cause as much physical damage as possible without generating a smidgen of sense or suspense

At some point of time, you were a lazy slob who enjoyed a juicy burger on your couch, its greasy sauce oozing with every bite, spilling on your shirt. You didn’t give a damn about the world, because you were 15. Now you’re nearing 30, tired of eating the same junk food for years, well aware of how greasy shitty food is bad for you. You’re offered the same burger for four times the price, at a health clinic. Would you really buy it?
