Opposites attract! He's charismatic, gregarious and passionate with an indomitable spirit to explore places. She's the archetypical seedhi-saadhi girl, Plain Jane actually, an academician who's focused on attaining what she's zeroed for herself as a career. Add two more characters who cross their paths in this beautiful journey called life. Now place these four straight-out-of-life characters in a bottle, shake with a swizzle stick and prestoRead full review4.0

Youth is a many splendoured thing. An alive, fresh vibe dominates Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani invigorating you through it's entire run. The story is not novel, but the treatment is A-grade. Ranbir Kapoor (Kabir Thapa aka Bunny), Deepika Padukone (Naina), Kalki Koechlin(Aditi) and Aditya Roy Kapur (Avi) go on a trek. While Bunny, Aditi and Avi have always been close, Naina, the staid, studious girl is a last minute addition to the groupRead full review4.0

There is a scene in the film where perched atop a hill top overlooking Jodhpur, Deepika tells Ranbir to slow down and stop grasping everything within his reach. She asks him to be still, enjoy the moment and savour every bit of it. Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani is full of such beautifully written, poignant moments. In fact, if you subtract the songs, the sheer beauty of the screenplay comes to the surface. Despite the big names associatedRead full review4.0

YJHD is a well-packaged ‘okay’ film and it becomes a ‘good’ film thanks to the acting efforts of Kalki Koechlin, Aditya Roy Kapur, Deepika and of course, Ranbir.Read full review3.5

One of the characters in this film says that he is tired of eating Maggie all the time. Right. So are we. Two-minute noodle love stories are easy to make, easy to watch and yes, easy to forget. And fortunately Ayan Mukerji’s 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' is not the two-minute variety. On the contrary, it is a delicacy, which requires patience, passion and it comes with unusual flavours. Naina Talwar (Deepika Padukone) is a nerd, who on a chance meetingRead full review3.5

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' is a hot jalebi of a film - golden & glistening on the outside, filled with empty calories and sure to give you a sugar rush that'll last long after you've left the theatre. Watching it is a guilty pleasure and the good feelings are mostly thanks to its ebullient leading man. Ranbir alone is enough to make you overlook most of this film's flaws and when he asks for applause at the end of a particularly cheesy monologueRead full review3.5

How much you enjoy 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' depends entirely on how much you've missed the typical Karan Johar formula. 'Wake Up Sid' director Ayan Mukerji takes us on a familiar journey through holiday romances, family conundrums, and big fat Indian weddings. It's predictable every step of the way, but Mukerji has a superb cast that never slips, even when his script does. Straight-laced 'Scholar Naina' (Deepika Padukone) has little in commonRead full review3.0

The only way she can now fend him off is if she tells him the truth. She: “Agar main tumhare saath do minute aur rahi toh…” He: “Toh kya?” She: “Toh mujhe tumse pyaar ho jayega… phir se.” His eyes shadow the happiness in his heart. But she has more to say. She: “Aur tumhe nahin hoga… phir se.” He realises what must have happened eight years ago and rather than rue what could have been, he seizes the moment and takes a step forwardRead full review3.0

In the very last shot of Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, the camera simply swishes past Naina (Deepika Padukone), the romantic interest and settles on Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor), the leading man who looks straight into the lens with a knowing half-smile. This last shot leaves some room for interpretation. If this were a romance-drama, wouldn't the two of them have earned a balanced sendoff? No: this film is about Bunny and his life and the decisionsRead full review3.0

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a love story that falls within the perimeter of a regular Bollywood romance. But director Ayan Mukherji ensures that despite being somewhat conventional, his film doesn't end up turning cliched. So we have a commitment phobic hero who wants to live life to the fullest and see world's farthest corners. Then we have a nerdy heroine who has never really looked beyond her books. And it is the hero's responsibilityRead full review3.0

The Kama Sutra have given us 64 ways of making love, to get to the Big O. Indian films have, over a 100 years, devised many more ways of getting boy and girl to enjoy at least the missionary position. Boy fidgets at point A, girl files her nails at point B, and the director must get them both to point C so that Kama Devata can get his jollies. Vicky Donor paved the way with, well, sperm; Yash Chopraji erected all sorts of hurdles, earthly and divineRead full review3.0

Picture this: Sid of Wake Up Sid is a few years older from where we saw him. Still scared of commitment, still wants to be the free bird but now he has a steady job for sustenance. The all-important factor of mush floats in with the film's heroine who is, of course, his polar opposite - focussed, respects family values but leads a claustrophobic life. Ayan Mukerji's second film is exactly the second film you would expect from director who made his debutRead full review3.0

The clichés are in place. Studious girls who never have fun wear specs. And when they let her hair down (also their necklines), the glasses get chucked out. Still, Ayan Mukerji’s second jab at writing and direction is packed with fun and is refreshing in most parts. Naina Talwar (Deepika Padukone) has her nose in her medical tomes, Kabir alias Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) wants to roam the world with his camera. He’s even got a scrap book with all the placesRead full review3.0

While watching Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, the biggest question is not whether Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone get together or which anti-ageing cream Madhuri Dixit uses. It’s this: when Sooraj Barjatya saw Karan Johar and Ayan Mukerji’s latest offering, did he grin triumphantly or snort contemptuously? Because with its candy-floss friendships, picturesque settings, flat yet strangely endearing characters and destination weddingRead full review3.0

Name this film. A boy and a girl take a life-altering holiday together. She is mousy, studious, bespectacled. She doesn’t drink, smoke and has never been kissed. He is a reckless charmer who flirts outrageously. Love blossoms, for her at least, but they must part and then reunite in the foreground of a big fat Indian wedding. Are you thinking Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge? Actually, I’ve just described the plot Yeh Jawaani Hai DeewaniRead full review2.5

Ayan Mukerji overstays the 'time limit' in YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, which makes it an 'up-and-down' fare. At best, this movie could be described as moderate. In terms of concept, it is nothing short of ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA. At one point in time (towards the end) Ayan does not know what to do, so he gets the hero into his own home from the airport towards the end to prolong the matter. If Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) wanted to visit his homeRead full review2.5

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a bright, breezy and brassy film designed for easy consumption. What it certainly is not is ballsy. For all the big ideas about life and the dilemmas of youth that it tosses up in the air over a runtime that’s 20 minutes shy of three hours, it always opts to play safe, vacillating between thoughts of rebellion and acts of conformity. The characters spout familiar platitudes to each other: live your dream, get a lifeRead full review2.5

When we can’t stand something a certain way, we’re instinctively prone to wishing it were the other way around, the opposite. This, naturally, is a huge fallacy, since the opposite is hardly ever what we truly mean. When we watch a Hindi film, for example, where the songs get in the way of the narrative and make the film longer than it should be, what we long for is a film where there are no songs, or one where the songs are truly a part of the storytellingRead full review2.0

It's been a few minutes since I stepped out of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and I'm finding it hard to remember what I've just seen. This is not the sort of amnesia that you have to force yourself into after a bad, blah film. This is because I've seen this brand new film, and its characters so many, many times before. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a been-here, seen-this, much-too-long glossy creature, and not much else.Read full review2.0

When the songs aren’t playing, this is a daftly childish film, one where most actors act half their age and the narrative stumbles forward inanely and gracelessly.Read full review2.0

My review of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) by kailashmisra
kailashmisra, 9 years agoThe story starts with Naina, who is a very shy girl. She lives with her family and she is studying medicine. One day, she meets with Aditi, her school friend in a shopping mall. Aditi is a complete tomboy who knows to live life on her own terms. While having a normal conversation in the shopping mall, Aditi tells Naina that she leaving to Manali for trekking with her school friends, Bunny and Avi. Bunny and Avi both are free-living guys living life on their own terms. Frustrated Naina after seeing the ‘Make my trip’ brochure decides to flee with these guys. The next day, she meets with Bunny who takes her to Manali. In this journey, she experiences how her life differs from the others. Aditi, Avi and Bunny make her to experience the ‘not so experienced world’ and in the end, you see complete transferred Naina, who now learns to enjoy her life. This Manali journey, brings Naina and Bunny close and while Naina is about to confess her feelings to Bunny, she comes to know that Bunny has received scholarship for his further education. Moreover, things end on torn up parts. Now, there is an 8 years leap in the film, when Naina is sitting and cherishing her tour days with these guys. All her friends are leaving their lives. Suddenly, the film focuses on Aditi’s wedding. Aditi sends the wedding invitation to Bunny and even Bunny decides to return India. Aditi is getting married to an NRI guy and her wedding is a destination wedding in Jaipur. Wedding events start and there is a cocktail party. The party marks the entry of her best friend, Bunny. Bunny after meeting Naina after 8 years, fall in love with her again and the duo spend some quality time in Jaipur. It is after this, the duo decide to fall in love with each other again. After Naina comes to know about Bunny’s feelings for her decides not to go with him as he is about to leave India after Aditi’s wedding. After Aditi’s wedding, Bunny decides to leave India and Naina is heartbroken. But somewhere his own lost world takes him back to his place and he decides to celebrate New Year with Naina in her place. Naina is shocked to see him and she asks him the reason why he missed his flight. Then Bunny sets a marriage proposal for Naina and even she agrees. The film ends on a very happy note with all four friends living happily. This is one of the most special films made by Ayan Mukherjee. The film has a good synchronization of emotions flowing correctly. There is so much in one sack that we can carry home. There is fun, enjoyment, trekking, love, friendship, feelings and many more. The film’s stronger points are the location, which have been shown. The film has Manali and Jaipur, which is so beautiful to see on the theatre and television screens. There are many famous taglines and narrations of Ranbir Kapoor. -
