Story, Synopsis, Trivia, Dialogues for Zakhm (1998)
Mrs. Desai is a Bombaybased widow and stays with her singer boy, Ajay, his expecting wife Sonia, and a second boy, Anand, who is currently engaged in a rightwing organization run by Subodh Malgaonkar. Things take a turn for the worst when warriors storm the Babri Masjid in Uttar Pradesh and smash it. Anger runs high amongst the Muslim society which leads to riots, even faroff Bombay. The Bombay police move quickly and a red alert is imposed in the more sensitive parts such as Jogeshwari, Mohammed Ali Road, and Dharavi. It is on this day that Mrs. Desai goes to offer prayers at her usual place of respect, and it is here that she will be killed by militants, operated to the Holy Family Hospital with more than 80% burns, and virtually no fortunate of surviving. Ajay must now deal with troubles with Sonia, who needs to leave India, and shifts to England, where she wants to give bears a baby child without any constraints as to culture and caste, on the other hand, and on another attack to cool a vengeful Anand into attacking other descent Muslims. But the main thing Ajay has to do is carry out his mom's last request to decompose her which is steady with the Christian and Muslim cultures. Ajay is the only one who knows the answer to this and must see that her last request is fulfilled despite of Subodh Malgaonkar's increasing force that his mom be cremated according to Hindu Rites.
