He was born on 29 July 1953. He is a musician and a singer. He is known for his work singing devotional songs and Urdu poetry, ghazal. He is a famous 'Bhajan Samraat'. He has been felicitated with the Padma Shri in 2012. He was born in Phagwara, Punjab. He was born to Purushottam Das Jalota who was a famous bhajan singer. He hailed from the Sham Chowrasi Gharana of Punjab. He started his career from All India Radio. He had worked in the movies such as Main Nahi Makhan Khayo,Aisi Lagi Lagan, Jag Me Sundar Hai Do Naam, Rang De Chunariya and Chadariya Jhini Re Jhini. He recorded title song "Golden Memorable Yaadein" for the CD "Noorani Chehra". He was married twice. He got separated from Sunali Rathod, now the wife of Roop Kumar Rathod.
