She is the daughter of famous veteran filmmaker Chidananda Dasgupta.She completed her schooling from Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata, India. She obtained her B.A degree from Presidency College. She had received appreciations for her work in the movies such as Baksa Badal, Basanta Bilap, and Chutir Fande. She won four National Film Awards. She had worked with the famous Bollywood personalities such as Dhritiman Chaterji, Shabana Azmi, Rahul Bose, Waheeda Rehman, and Soumitra Chatterjee. She got married three times.
