He was born on 9 July 1925 and he died on 10 October 1964. He was an Indian film director, producer and actor. He was a superstar of 50s and 60s. He did many hit movies like: Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool , Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Chaudhvin Ka Chand. He was known as "India's Orson Welles”. He was also amongst top 25 actors of bollywood. His movies used to be shown in Germany, France and Japan. A book was also written for him that was’ Ten Years with Guru Dutt: Abrar Alvi's Journey’ by Sathya Saran based on the recollections of his chief scriptwriter and friend. He was born in Bangalore. He was born to Shivashanker Rao Padukone and Vasanthi Padukone. He hailed from Konkani Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin family. Due to many financial crises, he couldn’t attend the college, rather attended performing arts troupe of Uday Shankar. He worked as a choreographer in Prabhat Film Company.
