Her father was Haridutt Bhatt. She completed her education from The Doon School, Dehradun. While she was in her school days, she had a liking for plays, so she used to participate in the theatre. Then after this, her interest in this sphere started growing and she wanted to make her career in this profession. She joined the National school of Drama, 1984. She is married to Gyan Shivpuri, but he died in 1995. She has a son Katyayan. Ab Ayega Mazaa followed by In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones a TV film. She also acted in many art films like Shyam Benegal's Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda (1993) and Mammo (1994). But, her big break was Sooraj R. Barjatya's Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!
