She was born on January 17, 1950. She is an Indian film actress and screenwriter, who work in Hindi cinema. She was born into an Irani, Zoroastrian family. She was married to Javed Akhtar, but the marriage didn’t work well. They have two children: Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. She is the sister of Daisy Irani. She started her acting as a child artist from the films: Chirag Kahaan Roshni Kahaan and Bombay Ka Chor. She did more than 72 films. After she got separated, she started doing embroidery on sarees to feed her family. She had an interest in writing short stories, but didn’t share with someone. Then she wrote for Yash Chopra’s Lamhe movie and that won her ‘Filmfare Award’ for Best Story for the film. She was also awarded for the film ‘Kya Kehna in 2002’, besides winning Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay with Ravi Kapoor for blockbuster Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai in 2001.
