He was born on 16 March 1920. He died on 10 March 1984. He was an actor, producer, director and a writer. He was born in Talagang, British India. He obtained his master's degree in Economics and Politics before completing his LLB. He made his acting debut with the film Ek Thi Ladki (1949). He had worked in the movies such as Harry Black (1958), besides acting in Maya (1967), Lawrence of Arabia (1962), North West Frontier (1959) and Death on the Nile (1978). He had worked in the Punjabi movies such as Nanak Naam Jahaaz Hai (1969), Chaddian Di Doli (1966), etc. He is married to Ramma Bains in 1943 in Lahore.
