He started his career as an assistant director to Amitabh Bachchan for the film Aks. He learnt acting from Barry John. He also continued his theatre acting with the academy of Naseeruddin Shah. He entered bollywood with the movie Meenaxi, opposite Tabu. Hi hit movie is Rang de basanti, where he received applauses for his role. He then did movies like: Hattrick, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Aaja Nachle. Unfortunately, all of them failed at the box-office. He has done many commercials too.
