He was born on 24 July 1937. He is an award-winning Indian actor and director in the Bollywood film industry. He is known for his roles in the movies like: Hariyali Aur Raasta, Woh Kaun Thi?, Himalaya Ki God Mein, Do Badan, Upkar, Patthar Ke Sanam, Neel Kamal, Purab Aur Paschim, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, and Kranti. He is known to have done many patriotic movies. Due to this, he was known as "Bhaarat Kumar". He is the recipient of Padma Shri by the Government of India. He was born in Abbottabad, a town of NWFP. He was born as Harikishan Giri Goswami. He completed his bachelor’s degree from Hindu College, University of Delhi and then decided to entry bollywood. He made his bollywood debut with the film ‘Fashion’ in 1975. He was then offered the lead role in the movies like: Kaanch Ki Gudia (1960) opposite Sayeeda Khan. Piya Milan Ki Aas and Reshmi Roomal. He was given the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution. He joined the Shiv Sena party for election. He is married to Shashi Goswami. They have two sons: Kunal and Vishal.
