She was born as Fatima Rashid in Rawalpindi, British India. She was born on June 1, 1929. She was the daughter of Jaddanbai and Uttamchand Mohanchand, a Hindu Mohyal Brahmin. She was the sister of Bollywood actor, Anwar Hussain and Akhtar Hussain. She was a beautiful actress who was known for her looks. She was casted opposite to Raj Kapoor in many movies and soon this reel couple became real couple. But, Raj Kapoor was married to Krishna, so he refused to divorce his wife. She played the mother of Sunil Dutt, in Mother India; she married him on 11Mar 58. She had three children: Sanjay Dutt, and two daughters, Priya, and Anju. She suffered from pancreatic cancer claimed Nargis on May 3, 1981.She was the granddaughter of Motilal Nehru and Daleepabai. She was honored with the Padmashree Award.
