She was born on 10 February 1942. She is a Bengali actress. She is the winner of National Film Award for Best Actress for Bengali film Dibratrir Kabya. She was raised by her mother in Kolkata. She had worked in the theatre with the artists such as Sisir Bhaduri, Nirmalendu Lahiri, Ahindra Choudhury and the great Chhabi Biswas. She made her debut as a child artist in the film Kankantala Light Railway (1950).
