She is a film actress known for her bollywood movies. She did Hindi and Bengali movies. She is known as Rakhee Gulzar. She is married to Gulzar Sahab. She has won three Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award, among others. She was born in the Bengali family. She was born in Ranaghat in the Nadia district, West Bengal. She completed her education from local girls' school. Her father had a shoe business. She was married to Bengali journalist/film director Ajay Biswas. But, this didn’t work well. She made her bollywood debut with the film: Jeevan Mrityu with Dharmendra in 1970. She also did a Bangla movie: Badhu Baran. She did movies like: Sharmilee, Shehzada (1972), Heera Panna (1973), Daag: A Poem of Love (1973), Hamare Tumhare (1979), Aanchal (1980), and Taaqat (1982), Blackmail (1973) and Tapasya (1976), Banarasi Babu, Lootmaar and Joshila, Jaanwar Aur Insaan (1972), Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Doosra Aadmi (1977), Trishna (1978), Baseraa (1981), Bandhan Kuchchey Dhaagon Ka (1983), Zameen Aasmaan (1984), and Pighalta Aasman (1985), Ek Do Teen Chaar, Kabhie Kabhie (1976), Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1977), Kasme Vaade (1978), Trishul (1978), Kaala Patthar (1979), Jurmana (1979), Barsaat Ki Ek Raat (1981), and Bemisal. Her last movie was in 2003 and after this she got retired from the film industry. Her last movie was Shubho Mahurat which won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. She got married to lyricist Gulzar Saheb, but they got separated after a year of their marriage. They have a daughter Meghna Gulzar, who is also an actress.
