She is known as Shalini. She made her debut at the age of 4 as a child artist. She acted in Malayalam movie Ente Mamattikkuttiyammakku. She acted along with her sister in Telugu movie Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari (1990). Her first lead role was in Aniyathi Pravu, which was a blockbuster. She did many successful movies such as Kadhalukku Niram (1999), Mariyadhai (1997), Amarkalam (1999) and Alaipayuthey (2000). She is married to Tamil film actor Ajith Kumar.
