Sharmila Tagore, the daughter of Gitindranath Tagore, a distant relative of Rabindranath Tagore, had born on December 8 Th in1946 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She got married to Mansoor Ali Khan, the Nawab of Pataudi, for which she had to convert herself to Muslim and got the new name as Begum Ayesha Sultana. They have three children named Saif Ali Khan, Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan. She made her debut in 1959 with Satyajit Ray film Apur Sansar where she played the lead character. At that time she was only fourteen years old and she did not have any prior acting experience so Ray used to shout on her for delivering the dialog but on screen she did the magic and Satyajit Ray cast her in his many films including Devi and most often she was paired with co-star Soumitra Chatterjee. Tagore made her debut in Hindi film with Shakti Samanta’s Kashmir Ki Kali in 1964 and again gave another hit film Evening in Paris in 1967.She and Rajesh Khanna made a popular pair in Aradhana (1969), Amar Prem (1971), Daag (1973) and Safar (1970). She worked in Gulzar’s film Mausam, Mira Nair’s film Mississippi Masala (1991) in a supporting role. Recently she got the chance to work with his son Saif Ali Khan in the movie Eklavya: The Royal Guard. She was also seen in Nagesh Kukunoor’s 8 X 10 starring Akshaya Kumar.
