She was born on 20 November 1969. She is the elder sister of Namrata Shirodkar. She is the popular actress from 1989-2000. She has worked in the famous serial’ Ek mutthi aasman’.Namrata and Shilpa both started in this industry together. Shilpa did acting in bollywood movies, while Namrata started modeling. Both of them are the granddaughters of Meenakshi Shirodkar who began her career with the movie Marathi film Brahmachari (1938), and stunned the audience by wearing a swimsuit. She acted in the movies like: Bhrashtachar, Kishen Kanhaiya (1990), Hum (1991), Khuda Gawah (1992), Aankhen (1993), Pehchaan (1993), Gopi Kishan (1994), Bewafa Sanam (1995) and Mrityudand (1997). She last appeared in the film Gaja Gamini. She is married to Apresh Ranjit, a merchant banker from the UK. He works in Barclays Bank. She has a daughter Anushka, in 2003.
