He was born in 1897 and he died on 1984. He was an Indian Parsi stage and film actor, director and producer. He did movies like: Khoon Ka Khoon (1935), a version of Shakespeare's Hamlet, Sikandar, Pukar, Prithvi Vallabh, Jhansi ki Rani, Mirza Ghalib, Jailor and Nausherwan-e-dil (1957). He was a travelling exhibitor. He started up with his 26 set ups and opened the Arya Subodh Theatrical Company. He started as a Parsi theatre actor with some experience in silent films. He also started a stage Film Company in 1935. He was married to Mehtab Modi, an actress who began her career in his movie Parakh. He became famous and did movies like: Pukar (1939), Sikandar (1941) and Prithvi Vallabh (1943). He played the lead role in Mirza Ghalib. The movie became hit and it had finest compositions like: "Aah ko Chaihiye Ek Umar," "Nuktacheen Hai Gham-e-Dil," "Dil-e-Nadaan Tujhe Hua Kya Hai," "Yeh Na Thi Humari Kismet”. The movies like: Kundan (1955), Nausherwan-e-Adil and Jailor (1958) also gave him the fame and success too. He got the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1980.
