Soumitra Chatterjee is a Actor and also worked as Voice, Screenplay, Music Director. Soumitra Chatterjee has mostly worked in Bengali and has worked in languages like Bengali, Hindi, English, Telugu.
He was born on 19 January 1935. He is an Indian film, a poet and a stage actor. He has worked with Satyajit Ray. He has worked in movies such as Charulata (The Lonely Wife, 1964), Abhijan (The Expedition, 1962), Ghare-Baire (The Home and The World, 1984), Joi Baba Felunath (The Elephant God, 1978), and Ganashatru (Enemy of the People, 1989). He has worked with other noted directors such as with Jhinder Bandi (1961), Parineeta (1969), Tapan Sinha in Kshudista Pashan (Hungry Stones, 1960), Asit Sen in Swaralipi (1961), Ajoy Kar in Saat Paake Bandha (1963), Mrinal Sen in Akash Kusum (Up in the Clouds, 1965) and Tarun Mazumdar in Sansar Simante (1975) and Ganadevata (1978). He has obtained the Padma Bhushan by the government of India in 2004. He is the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in cinema given by the government of India for lifetime achievement to any individual. He is the winner of two National Film Awards as an actor, as an actor in Bengali theatre; he was given the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1998 by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama.
