He was born on 29 November 1936. He was an Indian actor and a television actor. He was the son of Shailendra Chattopadhyay and mother Manimala Devi. He obtained his MBBS degree from Calcutta Medical College and became a doctor. He had worked in Civil Defence and later joined Kolkata Municipal Corporation. He was a theater artist at the amateur theatre under the tutelage of Jnanesh Mukherjee. He had worked in the films such as Panchasar (1968), Nayikar Bhumikay,Hansa Mithun (1968), Arogya Niketon (1969), Pratham Kadam, Kuheli, Phool, Kaach Kata Hire, Bigolito Karuna Jahnabi Yamuna, Bahurupi, Aandhar Periye Amrito Kumbher Sandhane, Lal Darwajaa , Jibon Rahasya, Ganasatru, are some of his noted movies.
