Amrit 1941

Amrit is a 1941 Indian Bollywood film released on 1941. A complicated plot about class differences in a coastal Konkan village It introuduces a typical Khandekar character, the idealisitic but dogmatic patriarch who becomes a victim of his beliefs. Here its Bappa (Salvi) who monopolises the villages palm trees from which today is made. He believes in fairness, not in mercy. The story of his urban son Vilas (Vithal), his daughter Lata and her friend Sadanand is intercut with that of a drunken shoemaker Krishna (Pendharkar) and his wife Seeta (Pawar). Vilas, who covets the shoemakers wife, procures a new hut for them. The son then starts having problems with his father and all the parellel storylines converge when Vilas accidentally kills Seetas daughter. Bappa, using his political influence, gets her innocent husband arrested instead and Seeta, exploiting Vilass desire for her, retaliates by making him her virtual slave. Bappa eventually faces up to his moral responsibility in a tale that also warns against the demon drink. *.* Bappa, the rich landlord and moneylender, is a ruthless and unscrupulous person and runs a flourishing liquor business. Krishna, the shoe-maker, is an alcoholic who ill-treats his wife Sita and spends all his earnings on his drinks. Bappas son Vilas is attracted to Sita who avoids him, till one day Vilas accidentally shoots Sitas daughter Jai. To save his son from a charge ogf murder, Bappa shift the blame on to the girls drunkard father, Krishna. When Krishna goes to jail, Sita takes revenge for all the injustice done to her by making Vilas her slave. . Bappa ultimately realizes the evil consequences of cheap liquor on the village society and abandons the business. Through suffering, this selfish and greedy man becomes a compassionate human being.
