Apni Chhaya is a 1950 Indian Bollywood social film released on Jan 01, 1950. The film is directed by Santoshi, music composed by Husnlal-Bhagatram.
Aspirations and Ideals are natural to warm blood. They give colour and zest to youth. But as we grow old and these ver aspirations dwindle & disappear giving place to a tastless or even degenerate life "APNI CHHAYA" is the photoplay of these tidal waves of our life. . The story opens with a wedding-procession. Sukhiya, an orphan girl in her teens, is to be married to an old man of sixty, because the old man has promised to her uncle a fat sum, to cover with compound interest the cost of her bringing up. Ramnath, village-youth, is scandalised at this social tyranny of the helpless girl. He creates a pandemonium, the marriage breaks and lest she should suffer the fate of the fate of the socially-ostracised, he marries her. . This naturally, enails the usual opposition of a custor-ridden village which added to the need for a livelihood, forces Ramnath and Sukhiya to move in search of "fresh and pastures new" when labour and luck combine to make them prosperous. . The landscape of their life changes. Crooks and social-sharks find congenial shelter with the rich, and Ramnath proves no exception. On Banke Babu enters his life and lures him to a neighbouring city. Ramnath falls an easy prey to his gulies. The horrible sins of modern city-life, and pests of the rich and young-wine and women, speculation and fraud-infest him and an interlude of degeneration follows. . Forlorn and forsaken Sukhiya finds life dished out to her in another measure. Hers become and endless tale of woe. The whell of time move slow. At last, however, her only solace, her young child Prakash grows into a fine youth, and as fate would have it, falls head-over-ears in love with the ideal Zamindars daughter Jyoti. . But Banke has his own designs on Jyoti, whom he wishes to marry to Ramnath. The die is cast. The villainy of Banke triumphs and the marriage-procession of the old bridegroom Ramnath arrives in the village. . For Sukhiya and Prakash, the event augers ill. To avoid untoward developments, Sukhiya puts Prakash under vigilance. Prakash however contrives to escape and runs to the scene of wedding. Sukhiya follows . Now onward one riddle follows another. Ramnath gets perplexed. Should he realise the moral force of the modern world or should he throw helpless children, Jyoti and Prakash to the abyss of sufference and torture?
