Shree Nath (Jagirdar) is talking with his manager when a old man arrives to his room who is none other then his own twin brother, Dina Nath. Dina Nath never wanted any share in the property and had left the house but now he is not well with his one hand not working. A new will was made, according to which Shree Nath was given no share in the property. Shree Nath had kept the new will with Rai Bahadur Jankinath (Murad). One day, Jankinath gets killed and Detective Rakesh Nath (Abhi Bhattacharya) is called upon by Shree Nath who fears that someone wants to kill him. Shree Nath gets killed and Rajesh Nath is clueless about who the murderer could be. Rajesh Nath suspects everyone in the house. Shree Nath did not have good relations with most of the people living in the house. Shobha (Mala Sinha) wanted to steal something from his safe. Lily (Lillian), a cabaret dancer knows more than she pretends to be knowing. One day a black shadow is seen by Shobha. She shouts and Rajesh runs to nab the person, but the shadow disappears. The incident repeats many times but Rajesh misses out on catching the shadow - every time as the shadow disappears at some unknown place within seconds which forces Rajesh to think that some other place exists within the home. Will Rajesh be able to get hold of the dark shadow? Is the dark shadow the real murderer? Will rajesh be able to find that path in the house? Who is the actual murderer? Jitpurs landlord Jogeshwarbabu had at one time disinherited his son Dinanath owing to his strong views against the system of Zaminidari and the younger son Srinath was made the sole heir to his vast property. Before his death, however Jogeshwarbabu had realised that Srinath was an unscrupulous man of a questionable character. He therefore made a second will disinheriting entirely his younger son Srinath and making Dinanath his heir. The first will was in possesion of Srinath while the second and the really valid will was in the custody of a trusted friend Raibahadur Jankinath. . Srinath who had thus illegally exporpriated the vast property was a chronic patient and therefore a doctor and a nurse Shobha were permanently quartered in his house. . The wholly unexpected return of the now paralytic and poverty-stricken Dinanath unnerved Srinath who, in his futile attempt to get possesion of the valid will with the help of a charming cabaret dancer Lily, unwittingly killed the Raibahadur. . Srinath, now a fugitive from law, suffered from an obsession that his life was in constant danger. He therefore sumoned from the city the famous private detective Rajesh for proetction. Hardly had Rajesh taken quarters with Srinath when the police party raided the house at mid-night to arrest Srinath for the murder of Raibahadur. When the doors of Srinaths room were pushed open, lo and behold, Srinath the murderer himself was found murdered with a dagger plunged in his back.
