Apurba is a handsome young bachelor who loves to write and play the flute.However he is unemployed and works as a private tutor. The scenes and sounds of trains that he sees from his room remind him of Nisehidipur village. Thoughe poor , he knows to dream big. Apu's friend comes to his house to and invite him for his cousin Aparna’s wedding. Apu agrees to go. At the wedding it is suddenly discovered that the groom has mental problems. So Apu is made the groom. Apu and Aparna start their his family in Apu's modest terrace room. Despite their poverty they form a picture of happiness. Apu gets a job. Aparna at this time is expecting a baby and leaves for her mother's place. However, she dies at childbirth leaving her baby Kajol with her parents. Apu goes crazy at the news of Aparna's death and for five years he never goes to see his son.After five years when father and son do meet, it is a union that the audienced will never forget in a lifetime.
