It requires courage, willpower, fortitude, vision and of course, the financial backing to accomplish a project of this magnitude. And debutante director Anthony D'Souza puts his skills and the financial resources to best use. BLUE is not merely a stunning looking film, it's also a well structured film. Most importantly, it's a solid entertainer that packs in so much in those 1.58 hours. Final word? Go, grab a ticket, if you haven't booked one yet. This under-sea treasure hunt is a kickass film. A must-see for all those who love adventure flicks

Sanjay Dutt knows the secret of a hidden treasure in a sunken ship but is reluctant to ferret it out, despite buddy Akshay Kumar's pleas. It is only when his younger brother Zayed needs to be bailed out from a gang of crooks that Sanjay consents to go underwater in the azure Bahamas. Bollywood goes underwater and comes up a winner. Blue is fresh and fulsome, boasting of some great deep sea shots ( by Pete Zuccarini, cinematographer, Pirates of the Caribbean fame)

The prospect of an underwater treasure hunt set in the Bahamas and Bangkok offers a potentially delicious spectacle of adventure and cinematic thrills. Put in an insane budget (over Rs100 crore) with a multitude of stars, and the stocks rise even further. But in the wrong hands, the film would have as much chance of surviving as a fish in a tank of sharks. Aarav (Akshay Kumar) is Sagar's (Sanjay Dutt) employer in the Bahamas, in what looks like fishing business.

Blue, directed by debutante Anthony D Souza, sets a new benchmark in Hindi filmmaking. It boasts of some stunning underwater photography, the likes of which you may not have seen before in an Indian film (Peter Zuccharini -- Pirates of the Caribbean). It has some scintillating action sequences (James Bomalick -- Die Hard 4, Mr and Mrs Smith) both on the ground and underwater, superbly shot. Now that we are done with the pleasantries, here's what you actually need to know about Blue. It sets a new benchmark in squandering money and opportunity.

Blue was promoted as India's first underwater action adventure besides being the most expensive film of all time. Its lavish mounting, non-stop marketing blitz and the combination of Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt has ensured an unprecedented opening at the box-office. If only first-time director Anthony D'Souza had kept aside a fraction of the budget for a sensible script... perhaps then, this would've truly been a different film.

Blue is the perfect example of a good 100 crores going down the drain (sau karod paani mein daal dena). Sure the film promises some brilliant visuals and underwater images never seen before in Indian films thanks to one of the finest underwater cinematographers in the world (Pete Zuccarini). But sadly the credit list literally lacks the mention of a screenplay writer. Rather the regular hero-villain combats are replicated in the oceans to no groundbreaking effect with the marine life playing passive spectators to the proceedings.

If you prefer to see Sanjay Dutt fitter and more awake, you might want to venture into All The Best: The Fun Begins, the latest from the Rohit Shetty-Ajay Devgn combine. The director-producer-star duo, who also gave us Golmaal and Golmaal Returns, seem to have concocted a workable comic formula. Several characters gather in a single location, usually a large house. The comedy stems from lies or mistaken identity or a few well-placed slaps but the gags are non- stop.

Blue, directed by Anthony D'souza is a brainless, forgettable action-thriller that quickly sinks without a trace. Let me say this right away: anyone expecting anything other than the sight of Lara Dutta in a skimpy bikini, or indeed Akshay Kumar with his shirt off, is going to be very disappointed. The film's hare-brained plot involves a coveted treasure buried at the bottom of the ocean, and a reluctant Sanjay Dutt playing Sagar, a working class, regular-Joe in the Bahamas

Sometime around March, 2008, Bear Sterns, a big-league investment bank suddenly woke up one morning to learn of its unexpected decline. The firm was given to recklessness in the securities market. New York’s Federal Reserve attempted an emergency surgery. None helped. The bank got sold off at $10 per share, down from its year-high of over $133. This was the first big news that convinced economists across of a looming Great Recession in America

The 120 minutes of Blue cost Rs 120 crore. That’s one crore for every minute of screen time. But why is it that more than the screen, you keep an eye on the time. Exactly what Kylie Minogue says, when Akshay asks why she is looking at him: “There’s a giant clock in that direction... Baby, I was just keeping time.” Blue can be the costliest film coming out of Bollywood but it is also not very short of being one of the worst films to have come out of the industry.

Anthony D'souza, director of Blue, said in an interview that it was important to keep the running time of the film under two hours (1.57hrs to be precise) so that the audience didn't get bored. D'souza couldn't have got it more wrong. Blue could have easily been shorter, or even not have been made at all. Okay, agreed that India hasn't seen an action film of this scale before. The canvas is huge, the cinematography pretty good and the making slick. Money has been spent like water

This one could turn out to be as big a disaster as the Titanic. By Titanic, I mean the actual ship that sank, not the film that soared to the sky. Industry reports say that Blue cost over Rs 120 crores to produce and it seems that none of that fancy moolah went into script development. A large amount must have gone towards singer Kylie Minogue, whose appearance is a mere marketing gimmick. The story is thus. Back in 1949, a ship carrying treasure from India sank somewhere in the Bahamas.

This one has to go down as the biggest disaster of the year. It is sure to sink without a trace. There is no substance, there is no script and the dialogues are juvenile and crass to the core. Sample this: Akshay Kumar tells a girl, 'Let me ride you.' The only twist in the plot (if you can call it one) is so loud that the director is almost shouting it out. When this excursion ends, you almost sigh in relief!

Sunken treasure. The incredible azure hue of the Pacific. Sleek boats. Sleeker females. And alpha males. Everything about `Blue’ promises to be a crackerjack underwater adventure, but it’s hard to keep your eyes open while it’s on. Even the killer sharks are soporific. Sagar (Sanjay) knows where the ‘khazana’ is, but is not telling. His hand is forced when younger brother Sam (Zayed) has to ante up millions of dollars or be killed by bad guy Rahul Dev.
